JD (U) suspends seven pro-Manjhi ministers

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): JD (U) on Tuesday suspended seven pro-Manjhi ministers from party leadership. Party Chief Sharad Yadav said that when he was told about the ministers he took immediate action on problems faced due to the leaders. Yadav added that he assessed the situation and took immediate action by moving court. He also said that Jitan Ram Manjhi does not have majority in the house and added that the Governor should have been quick in taking the decision over Bihar politics. Meanwhile, President of JD (U) unit in Bihar, Basistha Narayan Singh said that the ministers did not resign from their post even after being directed to do so by the party, which is why they were suspended. The suspension comes ahead of floor test, to prove majority for Manjhi, on Friday.

At least seven dead in Pakistan police headquarters attack

Lahore, Feb 17 (ANI): At least seven people died on Tuesday (February 17) in a large explosion and gunfire at a regional police headquarters in Pakistan's city of Lahore, police said. The explosion came from a car near the police building, said spokeswoman Nabeela Ghazanfar, adding it was unclear if the attack involved a suicide bomber. She said three people were dead but a police officer said at least seven had died, citing colleagues in the area. It was unclear how many of the dead were police. An unidentified policeman at the scene said it looked like a suicide attack. The blast was followed by rapid gunfire, witnesses said. Pakistan has suffered two major militant attacks in the past month.

Maithripala Sirisena visits Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya, Feb 17 (ANI): Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena, on Tuesday (February 17) visited one of the holiest Buddhist sites in India, where Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. He paid floral tributes to Lord Buddha statue in the Mahabodhi Temple. The Sri Lankan President also prayed under the Bodhi tree, a sacred fig near the Mahabodhi Temple which is said to be a descendent of the one Buddha sat under for three days and nights in the sixth century BC, before finding enlightenment. Sirisena, who is in India for a four-day visit, signed a nuclear energy agreement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. This is Sirisena’s first visit abroad after he assumed office last month by defeating his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa in a hotly contested elections.

Rajnath Singh meets Bangladesh official ahead of home secretary level talks

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (February 17) met Bangladesh's Senior Secretary of Home Affairs, Md. Mozammel Haque Khan in New Delhi ahead of Home Secretary level talks between the two countries. Reactions come in after PM Modi gives assurance to Christian community on religious tolerance

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): Reactions come in from political circle as well as Christian community after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured of religious tolerance and strongly asserted his government’s commitment to ensure equal respect to all religions in India.
