Ten rear coaches of a Duronto Express, going from Mumbai to Ernakulam, derailed in a tunnel near Balli railway station in Goa on Sunday morning, a railway official said. No casualties were reported.

The accident occurred around 7.15 a.m., about 45 km south of Panaji, as the 12223 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Ernakulam Duronto Express was passing through a tunnel.

No casualties have been reported yet. A medical van and relief trains have just reached the site, said Konkan Railway's (KR) public relations officer Baban Ghatge.

A statement issued by the Konkan Railway said that trains running on the Konkan Railway route via Goa would be diverted or cancelled.

"Full refund is being arranged by Konkan Railway for those passengers of Duronto Express who would not like to continue their journey," the statement said, adding that relief to passengers and restoration of the track was going on.

Passengers and their families have been requested by Konkan Railway to call 022 - 27587939 for enquiry about the status of the restoration of the track and resumption of traffic on the route.
