Dhaka, Jan 09 (ANI): The newly-elected lawmakers of the tenth parliament took oath of office in Dhaka on Thursday after Bangladesh's ruling Awami League won a violence-plagued parliamentary election as expected. Bangladesh recently concluded elections that ended with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League winning more than two-thirds of parliament seats. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to the 230 newly elected lawmakers of Awami League including party chief Sheikh Hasina. 31 lawmakers from HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party took oath in second phase. UPA admits to irregularities in coal block allocation

New Delhi/ Ranchi, Jan 09 (ANI): The Attorney General of India, GE Vahanvati, admitted to irregularities in the infamous coal allocation scam in the apex court on Thursday, media reports said. As per the reports, Vahanvati told the Supreme Court that something had gone wrong in the allocation of coal blocks, even though they took the decisions in 'good faith'. After the statement, the UPA government drew flak from the opposition. As per reports, the FIRs have been filed against BLA Industries Pvt Ltd, Gastron Technologies Pvt Ltd and some unknown officials of the Coal Ministry to whom the coal blocks were allocated during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime. Maoists in Odisha kill road contractor and injure a villager

Narayanpatna, Jan 09 (ANI): Armed Maoist rebels killed a road contractor and injured a villager in a remote village of Odisha. The rebels attacked two villagers from Balipeta village in Koraput district after branding them as police informers. The body of one villager, said to be a road contractor, was found on Tuesday and the other was found with a bleeding slit throat and rushed to a nearby hospital.
