BJP legislators demand probe report in Kosi river floods to be made public

Patna, July 22 (ANI): BJP leaders on Tuesday protested outside the state assembly in Patna, and demanded that the state government make the 2008 Justice Walia report on Kosi river floods public. A one-man inquiry commission headed by Justice Rajesh Walia, a retired chief justice of the Patna High Court, was probing an embankment breach in the river and submitted its report earlier this year in March. The floods were caused by a swollen Kosi river, which had changed its course, ravaging and devastating several districts in the state. Slamming the ruling Janata Dal United government for not tabling the report, BJP legislator, Nitin Navin, said he and his party would urge the government to do so.

Police arrest three accused in Manipur youth killing

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Delhi police on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of three men accused of killing a Manipuri youth who was beaten to death by a group of unidentified men. 30-year-old Shaloni was beaten to death in the national capital on Sunday, an incident which again raised concerns over security of people from northeastern states. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. On Tuesday, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi assured stringent action in connection with the case. Expressing concern over the incident, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, said police has intensified search for the other two accused involved in the killing.

BSE closes points 310.63 up on July 22

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 310.63 points up to stand at 26,025.80. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 83.65 points up to stand at 7,767.85. Financial Tech and Wockhardt were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 10.00% and 6.64% along with National Aluminium Co.Ltd. and Shriram City Union Finance Ltd. with an increase of 6.31% and 6.04% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Thermax and JPINFRATEC with a decrease of 8.28% and 3.96% along with Torrent Power and Unitech with a decrease of 3.92% and 2.79% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 61.85 points at 15,778.80 while the banking sector is up 71.02 points at 17,688.31 and the realty sector is up 11.15 points at 1,972.75. The Indian currency is 0.08 % down at Rs 60.25 per dollar.

Govt keen to set judicial commission: Ravi Shankar Prasad tells Parliament

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Tuesday told parliament that the government was keen to set up a panel to appoint judges in wake of allegations of judicial corruption by a former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Markandey Katju. Katju alleged that the previous Manmohan Singh government extended the tenure of a corrupt additional judge of the Madras High Court due to stay in power as its key ally from the Tamil Nadu had threatened to withdraw support. Prasad said the national judicial commission was the need of hour.

Woman journalist found dead in Ghaziabad apartment

Ghaziabad, July 22 (ANI): A woman journalist was found dead in her apartment in Ghaziabad’s Mahagun Mosaic Society. Nikita Das Mandal was a producer with the Rajya Sabha TV. She lived with her husband at her apartment where her body was found in mysterious conditions at the Building’s basement.
