Tribal fair in Bhubaneswar draws huge crowd

Bhubaneswar, Jan 28 (ANI): People are thronging the annual tribal fair in Bhubaneswar city of Odisha to get a glimpse of the tribal culture and a taste of the tribal delicacies. The tribal fair was inaugurated on Monday by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. It has been organised by the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRI) and will go on till February 09. Director of SCSTRI, A B Ota said that the annual fair is aimed at offering an integrated platform to the tribals from across the state for exhibiting and promoting their culture, art and crafts, lifestyle, and more. Mary Kom calls on PM Modi

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Champion pugilist M C Mary Kom along with her husband Onlar Kom met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. According to media reports, Mary gifted the Prime Minister a copy of her autobiography Unbreakable and invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate their boxing academy. However, the Prime Minister's Office described it as a courtesy call. Earlier on Tuesday, Kom had expressed her delight over US President Barack Obama mentioning her name in his Town Hall speech at the Siri Fort auditorium in the national capital, terming it a 'moment of pride'. New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje met US President Barack Obama at the banquet hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee recently. Obama was accompanied by his wife Michelle. Raje along with a bevy of political and corporate leaders shared the table in the banquet hosted by President Mukherjee in honour of the Obamas. During his visit to India that started on Sunday morning the US President attended various events and ceremonies including President's Banquet, CEO's roundtable and Town Hall event apart from the Republic Day parade. BJP, PDP agree on seat sharing for RS polls; NC to support Azad

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Politicos gave mixed reactions as the National Conference decided to join hands with Congress and support its leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's candidature in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls in the state. According to reports, the BJP and the PDP have also come to an understanding over seat sharing in the elections to Rajya Sabha. The BJP has fielded two candidates from Jammu and Kashmir for the February 7 polls for Rajya Sabha where four seats are going to fall vacant next month. Army Chief praises Martyred Col MN Rai for acting brave against terrorists

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): The Chief of Indian Army, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, on Wednesday praised the martyred Colonel MN Rai, who laid his life fighting against terrorists in Tral last evening. Suhag said that Rai was a brave officer and had also received awards for his quick action on Republic Day. Suhag said that army will always be acting on a tipoff to fight insurgents and protect the country from any harm. Tamil newspaper receives terrorist threat, Condemning reactions flow

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Weeks after 14 people died in an attack at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris, a threat letter for a similar attack has been received in Tamil Nadu. Condemning reactions flowed on Wednesday after a Tamil daily, Dinamalar, received a letter: supposedly from terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda, reading "Yesterday Charlie Hebdo, tomorrow Dinamalar". The letter mentions "the base moment of the Al-Qaeda" as the sender. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that this is against the freedom of press. Congress leader Manish Tewari condemned the threat saying that freedom of press should not be attacked. Defence Expert Lt Gen (Retd) Raj Kadyan said that the investigation agencies should take note whether the threat was real or only meant to create hoax. Jan 28, 2015
