Sushma urges Centre to declare Bhagwad Gita as 'Rashtriya Granth'

New Delhi, Dec 07 (ANI): Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday urged the Centre to declare Bhagwad Gita as 'Rashtriya Granth' or national holy book. Swaraj was attending the celebrations marking 5,151 years of the Bhagwad Gita in Delhi. Swaraj added that she participated in the event not as a minister but like an ordinary person. Sushma also said that PM Narendra Modi had gifted Bhagwad Gita to President Barack Obama during his US visit and indicated the Bhagwad Gita as a national holy book. Dec 7, 2014

UN to declare June 21 as World Yoga Day: Sushma

50,000 proud Chennai residents create Guinness world record of largest human national flag

Chennai, Dec 07 (ANI): The 50,000 proud residents of Chennai on Sunday succeeded in forming the largest human national flag as they made their way to the Guinness Book of World Records. People from all walks of life assembled holding placards of different colours - saffron, white and green to form the Indian national flag. One of the participants in the record attempt, Vatrivel, said he felt proud of the attempt. Another participant, Ekta said she felt proud as an Indian after the successful attempt. The officials of the Guinness world record limited will adjudicate the details of the attempt and will announce the record later in the day. The record was organised by the Rotary Club International. Eco friendly products mesmerize visitors at Kerala Bamboo Fest in Kochi

Kochi, Dec 07 (ANI): Visitors made a beeline towards the makeshift tents of the 11th edition of the annual 'Kerala Bamboo Fest' which displayed artisans' innovativeness while propagating the use of the 'green wood' in Kochi. Craftsmen from various Indian states arrived in the five-day bamboo festival to propagate the use of bamboo and bamboo-made products in order to spread awareness regarding the use of eco friendly products in daily life. Managing Director of Kerala State Bamboo Co-operation, T Sukumaran Nair, said that the fest aims to make eco-friendly things and prevent deforestation. The annual event is being organised by the Kerala State Bamboo Mission. Politicos & Social activists demand action against Uber cab driver for alleged rape case in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 07 (ANI): Political leaders on Sunday demanded action against the Uber taxi service driver who allegedly raped a woman who was returning from a dinner party in Gurgaon on Friday night. BJP Spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that police is taking action and that the government will not tolerate crime against women. Congress leader Rashid Alvi also condemned the incident and demanded action on the same. Meanwhile, women rights activists and social activists also condemned the incident and said that it is unfortunate that such incident take place under the very nose of the central government. Indian Army recovers arms used in Handwara encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 7 (ANI): Indian Army on Sunday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition used by militants during the latest encounter in Handwara town of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the reports, these arms and ammunitions were used in the gunfight between the Army and the militants during the second phase of assembly polls in Handwara on Tuesday. Also recovered were arms used during a gun battle in Uri sector, near the heavily militarized border with Pakistan, on Friday when militants sneaked into an Indian military camp killing 11 soldiers and police officials. Violence has escalated in Kashmir as India holds an election to the state assembly that separatists have shunned and instead urged talks with Pakistan to resolve the 67-year-old row over the Muslim-majority region. Martyr Sankalp Shukla receives Guard of Honour, Body cremated in Ranchi

Ranchi, Dec 07 (ANI): The martyred soldier Lt Col Sankalp Shukla was given Guard of Honour on Sunday before his body could be cremated. Shukla laid his life fighting against militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector on Friday. He had also reportedly sustained bullet injuries in a militant attack about 10 years back. The soldier is survived by his wife and two daughters. A grand wreath laying ceremony was held in Ranchi where a huge crowd gathered to pay floral tribute to the soldier after which, his body was cremated. Dec 7, 2014

Security tightens in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Modi rally

Srinagar, Dec 7 (ANI): Security was tightened in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally scheduled for Monday. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had alleged that the purpose of the recent militant attack at an Army base in the state was to create terror among the masses. BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh alleged that these incidents were to disrupt the election atmosphere in the state. Sniffer dogs and security personnel were deployed in and around the rally venue.
