Rajnath Singh flags off 'run for oneness' in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 26 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday (October 26) flagged off a marathon in New Delhi, organised with an aim to spread message of oneness and harmony. Conducted by a charitable foundation, the marathon of around 8.4 kilometers was flagged off from National Stadium and more than 15,000 people aged 16 and above participated in the run, wearing white shirts and blue caps, symbolizing the message of peace. The theme for this year's run was 'smiles for miles and miles'. Singh flagged off the event along with Arjuna award winner Sunita Godara, 1992 Asian Marathon champion, who also holds a record for running maximum marathons by an Indian. People in Ludhiana participate in walkathon to spread cancer awareness

Ludhiana, Oct 26 (ANI): A cancer awareness walkathon was organised in Ludhiana on Sunday to encourage people to undertake timely medical check-up to ascertain early detection of the disease. The walkathon, in its second year, is an initiative of a non-governmental organisation, Can Fight Cancer (CFC). Over 1000 people walked nearly 2.5 kilometres to show solidarity with cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers and medical professionals, who were also present among the crowd to make the event a success. Musical performances also enthralled the participants and caught the attention of more people. A member of CFC, Tarun Nayyar, said it is imperative to make people aware that cancer is curable. 102 Air India pilots found flying with lapsed licenses

New Delhi, Oct 26 (ANI): Air India has recently discovered that as many as 102 pilots of its wide body Boeing fleet have been flying without clearing a mandatory test that helps keep their licences valid and without which the same lapse. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had ordered Jet to remove its chief of training due to this serious lapse. Admitting the lapse of its training department, Air India wrote to DGCA saying that the route check of the 102 pilots was not done as per the required schedule that rendered their licences unfit for flying. Unprovoked firing by Pak at border leaves Kashmir residents perturbed

Poonch, Akhnoor, Oct 26 (ANI): After a fresh incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan, people in Jammu and Kashmir said that they are perturbed by the constant firing across the international border and want things to return to normal. Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing in Balakot sector of Mendhar area in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The Indian troops guarding the border retaliated effectively. A social worker in Poonch district, Mohammad Zaban, said only a dialogue process can bring peaceful end to this issue. Fishermen in Vizag reel under aftermath of cyclone Hudhud

Visakhapatnam, Oct 26 (ANI): The fishermen community in port city of Visakhapatnam seems to be worst affected by cyclone Hudhud as they have not been able to return to work after their fishing boats and other equipments were either lost or damaged. Cyclone Hudhud slammed into the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 12, tearing down tens of thousands of mud-and-thatch homes, and flattening rice, banana and sugarcane plantations. Meanwhile, a fisherman, Danayya, said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is himself supervising the rehabilitation work. However, another fisherman, Aslam Khan, said the help offered by the government is not enough. On an average, 350 tonnes of fish is provided by the Visakhapatnam fishing harbour per day, of which nearly half is sold in Visakhapatnam itself. The remaining stock is exported to Tamil Nadu and Kerala where the fish varieties of Visakhapatnam are very popular. Oct 26, 2014

Massive fire breaks out at Bokaro market

Bokaro, Oct 26 (ANI): A fire broke out in a market in Bokaro on Sunday morning engulfing several shops and damaging goods at least worth three million ahead of Hindu festival of Chhath. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained and also, no loss of life was reported. Grieving about the losses incurred, a shopkeeper, Prithvi Sav, said all the shops at Dhundibad market were fully stocked with items of worship ahead of Chhath. A fire fighter, Rakesh Tiwari, said at least a little support from the shopkeepers would have helped control fire much faster. It is being estimated that had the fire fighters not reached on time, fire would have damaged material worth more than rupees 100 million.
