Three women Maoists arrested in Odisha

Bhubaneshwar, Mar 1 (ANI): Police arrested three women Maoists from a camp in Gajapati district of Odisha, recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition from them. During a combing operation, police raided a Maoist camp in a forest near Mohana about 300 km away from Bhubaneswar, after which the rebels belonging to the breakaway Maoist group, Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP), led by Sabyasachi Panda, were detained. Bangladesh: Law Ministers demand for speedy trial of Pak war criminals gets support

Dhaka, Mar 1 (ANI): One of Bangladesh's leading lawyers, Barrister Tureen Afroz recently hailed the country’s Law Minister Shafique Ahmed’s demand for conducting a speedy trial of Pakistani war criminals, accused of committing genocide during the 1971 liberation struggle. The Law Minister had hinted that 195 war criminals, who were handed over to Pakistan by Shimla Agreement -- tripartite treaty between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh – be brought to justice. Afroz said amnesty cannot be granted to war criminals under the Vienna convention, adding that international treaty is not binding on Bangladesh legal system unless approved by the parliament. Indian historians dig out 15 skeletons of fighters of the mutiny of 1857

Amritsar, Mar 1 (ANI): After 157 years of obscurity, on February 28, historians dug out a well in Amritsar which had the bodies of Indian freedom fighters buried deep in its abyss, allegedly killed by British soldiers during 1857 mutiny. For the past nearly 150 years, the well has been a cemetery for those freedom fighters, who played a great role in the First war of Independence against the British. Hundreds of residents of the nearby areas gathered to pay homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives in the war of Independence. Demand for Bodoland gains momentum

Guwahati, March 01 (ANI): Political leaders and activists welcomed the move by central government to constitute an expert committee to examine the demand for a separate Bodoland state from Assam, days after the Parliament passed the bill for the creation of a new Telangana state. The one-man expert committee was set up on Thursday, which would submit its report in nine months after consulting every section of the society on the creation and validity of Bodoland. FIFA officials visit Kolkata to inspect venue for under-17 Football World Cup

Kolkata, March 01 (ANI): FIFA officials visited the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata to inspect the venue for the under-17 Football World Cup. In a press conference in Kolkata, FIFA delegation chief, Inaki Alvarez, said the purpose of the team’s visit was to carefully survey the facilities to be provided to the players. Expressing his satisfaction with the Salt Lake Stadium, he further said that the stadium has all the space required. The visit to the Salt Lake Stadium makes it the eighth venue in India inspected by a FIFA team so far.
