Sushma Swaraj to visit Singapore from 15th to 17th August

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Wednesday informed that EAM Sushma Swaraj would be visiting Singapore for two days. He further informed that the visit is primarily to flag off the year long celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relation between the two countries. Swaraj will visit Singapore from 15th to 17th August.

Paid news case: SC directs Delhi HC to decide disqualification of Ashok Chavan within 15 days

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): In the paid news case the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi High Court to decide on the disqualification of Ashok Chavan in the next 15 days. The Delhi High Court had earlier stayed an Election Commission showcause notice to the former Maharashtra Chief Minister in July. The Election Commission had issued a notice to Chavan for failing to lodge his election expenses as per law in the 2009 paid news case.

Shanti Bhushan says Kejriwal lacks organizational skills, politicos react

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and founder member Shanti Bhushan on Wednesday said that the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal lacks organizational skills. Bhushan, opined that though the former Delhi chief minister is intelligent, sharp and a great strategist, yet he lacks the skills needed to run an organization. Bhushan further said that the AAP chief should give the task of building the party to someone else. However, despite ridiculing Kejriwal_s organisational skills, Bhushan asserted that he is the right person to be the face of AAP and should remain the main campaigner. Meanwhile, reacting over this the Congress party supported Bhushan_s statement. Former AAP leader Vinod Kumar Binny too supported Bhushan_s statement. Meanwhile AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said that it would have been better if Shanti Bhushan expressed his views in the party forum.

Lok Sabha passes Judicial Appointments Bill

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): The National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014 was passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The new Bill will replace the existing collegium system when it comes into effect. The bill will now be introduced in Rajya Sabha where the BJP lacks majority. The Congress is expected to create hurdles in the upper house and demand amendments in the present bill.

Two Maoists killed in encounter with police in Maharashtra

Gadchiroli, Aug 13 (ANI): Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in India___s western province of Maharashtra. The rebels opened unprovoked firing at the police in the Khobramenda forest of Gadchiroli district. Superintendent of Police, Sandip Patil, confirmed the death of the two Maoists. Meanwhile, Patil also said they have recovered various arms and ammunitions during the search operation. AAP begins door-to-door campaign to demand fresh elections in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): Members of Aam Aadmi party launched a door-to-door signature campaign on Wednesday asking people to sign a petition and join hands with the party in demand of re-elections in Delhi. Delhi has been under President_s rule since February when Chief of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, resigned from the post of chief minister after his 49-day-old government failed to table its Lokpal Bill in the assembly. The assembly has been under suspended animation ever since and no party has staked a claim to form the government. The campaign was initiated from the Patparganj assembly constituency in Delhi by AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Ashutosh in national capital, New Delhi. However, Leader of AAP, Manish Sisodia said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not responding to the issues of price rise and corruption in Delhi. The signature campaign will be held for 15 days. Meanwhile, a resident from Delhi, Ranjan Pratap, said that Modi___s government has not met any of people___s expectations.

Police probe car hijacking by suspected militants in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 13 (ANI): Police in Jammu and Kashmir said on Wednesday that investigations are on after a car was hijacked by suspected militants in the region. A tourist taxi in Ramban district was hijacked on August 12. Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Rajendra Kumar, said the police has got some information on which they are further probing the case. The police also informed the hijacked car carried four passengers, out of which two were from Punjab. Kumar added the security arrangements for August 15 in the state were also reviewed in a meeting.

HC Judges differ on appeal in TMC MP Tapas Pal_s case

Kolkata, Aug 13 (ANI): The two judges of a division bench of the Calcutta High court on Wednesday differed in appeal on TMC MP Tapas Pal___s case. Justice Girish Gupta set aside the order of Justice Dipankar Dutta who had directed filing of an FIR against Pal. Justice T Chakrabarty, the brother judge, however, dismissed appeals of both the West Bengal government and Tapas Pal. The matter will now go to a third judge to be nominated by the Chief justice.
