PM Narendra Modi meets with SAARC nation heads

New Delhi, May 27 (ANI): A day after he took oath as the 15th prime minister of India, Narendra Modi held "courtesy meetings" with leaders of SAARC countries. Modi greeted Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who arrived first at the Hyderabad House where the two leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. Later in the day, Modi met Maldives President Abdulla Yameen, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and Nepal PM Sushil Koirala. His most significant meeting was with Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif. The series of meetings will end with Modi receiving Bangladesh Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. After their courtesy calls, the Heads of Government of SAARC countries will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee. May 27, 2014

Ravi Shankar Prasad takes charge as new Law Minister

New Delhi, May 27 (ANI): Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday took charge as new Law and justice minister. Like his predecessor Kapil Sibal, Prasad will also hold both communications and law and justice portfolios. Modi kept charges of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space to himself. While Rajanth Singh was given charge of Home Ministery, Arun Jaitley is incharge of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Defence Ministry. Sushma Swaraj is the new External Affairs Minister, and Venkaiah Naidu is embodied with ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs. Nitin Gadkari took oath as Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Miniter along with Prakash Javadekar as the Information and Broadcast Minister, whereas DV Sadananda Gowda is the new Railways minister Uma Bharti is given Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation ministry, whereas Najma Heptulla is the new Minority Affairs minister. Indian fishermen released by Pakistan thank Modi for their homecoming

Amritsar, May 27 (ANI): Indian fishermen released by Pakistan arrived in Amritsar and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their homecoming. Pakistan freed Indian prisoners on May 25 as a goodwill gesture, a day ahead of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to New Delhi to attend Modi's oath-taking ceremony. Fifty-nine Indian prisoners, who were freed from Malir jail of Karachi, celebrated the joy of homecoming. A released fisherman, Pappu, thanked Modi for extending an olive to nuclear rival Pakistan, which ensured their release from jails.
