Heavy monsoon rains bring waterlogging woes for Mumbaikars

Mumbai, July 02 (ANI): The residents of Mumbai on Wednesday enjoyed the very first rainfall of monsoon after suffering from a month long heat wave. However, the heavy rainfall though fruitful for the people, also caused trouble as there was immense waterlogging in Andheri and some flights were also reportedly delayed due to bad weather condition. May and June are usually the hottest months of the year in India with temperatures often in the range of 42 to 47 degrees Celsius at many places.

BJP legislators in Bihar protest against poor governance and law and order

PATNA, July 2 (ANI): BJP leaders in Bihar on Wednesday refused to attend assembly session to show their resentment against poor law and order situation in Patna.The party members blamed the ruling government in the state. The relations between both the BJP and the JD (U) strained after Bihar's former chief minister Nitish Kumar broke 17-year-old alliance with the BJP in 2013 after Narendra Modi was made campaign head. The JD(U) currently heads a minority government in Bihar.

Chhattisgarh hails appointment of new Governor

Raipur, July 2 (ANI): Chhattisgarh province hailed appointment of the new Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, as he took oath of office on Wednesday. The office of the Chhattisgarh governor had fallen vacant after Shekhar Dutt tendered his resignation. Yadav said that he will fulfil his responsibilities and play the designated role to the best of his capabilities. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh was also present at the inauguration and termed the appointment as a matter of pride. It is a matter of pride for the state of Chhattisgarh that we have got an experienced and eminent leader as our new governor. BJP had said that the governors who were being asked to quit were either facing court cases or were inefficient.

Politicians back CJI's remark over appointment of judges, BJP admits mistake

New Delhi, July 2 (ANI): Politicians on Wednesday backed the remark of Chief Justice of India RM Lodha over the removal of former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium's name for the post of a Supreme Court judge, by the Modi government. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Monday by Rs 1.69 and Rs. 0.50 per litre respectively while onion prices have continued to surge upwards. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had called upon state governments to check hoarding, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met ministers and senior bureaucrats to discuss strategies to control inflation, which is at a five month high. Singapore Foreign Minister meets Indian PM to bolster bilateral ties

New Delhi, July 2 (ANI): Singapore's Foreign Minister, K Shanmugam, met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday on the second day of his five-day visit to reaffirm mutual cooperation between the two Asian countries. Shanmugam's state visit, which started on Monday, also includes plans to visit southern cities of Chennai and Hyderabad.
