Students participate in marathon as a tribute to mothers

Bhopal, July 13 (ANI): Hundreds of school children and residents of Bhopal participated in a marathon, Mission for Mother, on Sunday. Organised by members of an old age home, Apna Ghar (our home), the marathon took place with the intention of reminding people of their mother's sacrifices and so that no mother is sent to an old age home when she needs her children the most. The event focused on making people aware of the life a mother lives for her children. Present at the event were senior women citizens who live in an old age home. They were also honoured by the members of Mission for Mother.

Delayed monsoon fuels food inflation by 10 percent

Rajkot, July 13 (ANI): Food inflation nears 10 percent with prices of vegetables like tomatoes sky rocketing in the domestic markets due to weak rainfall since the start of monsoon season, which has raised concerns of a first drought in the country in five years. The retail price of tomatoes in local markets has risen to Rupees 50 per Kg in Gujarat. A doubling in retail prices across major cities is especially troubling for staples such as onions, an ingredient that is present in just about every Indian meal.

Killings on border unacceptable: Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister

Agartala, July 13 (ANI): Former Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dipu Moni strongly said that deaths on the borders and use of lethal weapons by border guards are unacceptable. She added that the killings at the border are a very serious concern for Bangladesh and the country had taken this up with the Indian authorities very strongly. Moni added that the border killings fortunately have gone down but should go down to zero. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on June 26 held talks with Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, to bolster strategic partnership.

Protest outside Israel Embassy over Israel bombing in Gaza

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): People on Sunday came out in droves outside Israel Embassy to protest against Israel's continuing bombing on Gaza. Even after continued international pressure, Israel refuses to stop its operation against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Israel is using twice the force it has used in the past and has attacked more than 1,000 targets. At least 121 people have died in the Israeli air strikes.

Congress protest against water and power shortage in Delhi

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): Congress workers on Sunday staged protest over water and power shortage in Delhi's Ashok Vihar near Wazirpur village. The protest led by DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, shouted anti-government slogans. The agitators sat on a grand dharna and thereafter burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lovely condemning the NDA government said that the residents of Delhi are troubled with the situation and needs relief.

Kashmir shuts down in remembrance of 1931 uprising against monarchy

Srinagar, July 13 (ANI): Kashmir on Sunday observed a shutdown to observe the anniversary of July 13, 1931- a major uprising against the Dogra monarchy. Separatist Hurriyat Conference leaders called for strike in a bid to pay homage to the 22 Kashmiri youth who were killed on that day, which is also observed as a state holiday. All shops, business establishments, educational institutions, government offices were closed as market wore a deserted look. Armed security personnel were seen patrolling on the street of Srinagar.

National Federation of Indian Women delegation meets Rajnath Singh over women trafficking

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): A delegation of National Federation of Indian Women headed by General Secretary Annie Raja met Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the issue of women trafficking in parts of country. She said that the research team visited districts of Bihar and Jharkhand and found cases of missing women in majority of homes. Raja also said that the issue was brought to the home minister for consideration and that Singh assured of investigation in the matter.

Five more infants die at Malda hospital, toll reaches 12

Malda, July 13 (ANI): In a worsening situation at the Malda Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, five more infant deaths have been reported on Sunday. This comes less than a day after as many as seven newborn died at the hospital in 24 hours time. The government hospital had been in the news for the death of 23 infants due to an unspecified illness in June. Crib deaths is a serious issue haunting the West Bengal government since the past few years.

Palestinians clash with Israeli troops in the West Bank

Hebron/ Bethlehem, July 13 (ANI): Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli military forces in the West Bank cities of Bethlehem and Hebron early Sunday morning in protest against an Israeli offensive in Gaza. Israeli troops responded with stun grenades, tear gas and live fire. In Hebron, seven Palestinians were injured from live fire. Another 20 were injured by rubber bullets. The clashes took place as Israel continued a five-day offensive against Hamas militants in Gaza.

Mixed reactions flow as NCP Chief refuses to oppose appointment of Nripendra Misra

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): Political leaders on Sunday gave mixed reactions as NCP Chief Sharad Pawar refused to oppose the appointment of Nripendra Misra as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister. Congress leader Rashid Alvi casually said that Sharad Pawar is capable of taking decisions for his party.
