JandK attack: Terrorists belonged to LeT, says Indian Army

Srinagar, Dec 07 (ANI): Army on Sunday said that the terrorists involved in the recent terror strikes in four towns of Jammu and Kashmir belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba group and were highly trained to carry special operations. Kashmir Valley was rocked by four attacks by terrorists from across the border who stormed an Army camp in Uri leaving 11 security personnel including a Lt Colonel dead and killed two civilians in Tral. Talking to mediapersons in Srinagar Lieutenant General Subrata Saha said that all the ammunitions and arms seized during encounters last week by Indian Army were manufactured in Pakistan.

Textile business sees a drop in Surat

Surat, Dec 7 (ANI): The textile industry in Gujarat saw 30 percent less sales in comparison to the previous year even though it is the season of big fat Indian weddings.The month of December is one of the busiest months for the industry, with Christmas round the corner and the wedding season at its peak, but this year the shopowners in Surat's Textile Market are sitting idle. A textile businessman, Kailash Agarwal, said the retail and wholesale textile busines fared badly this season. Agarwal said that he could not pinpoint the exact cause of the slump.

Woman allegedly raped by Uber cab driver in Delhi

Mathura, Dec 7 (ANI): A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the driver of a cab that she hired through Uber from Vasant Vihar area. The incident took place when she was returning from Gurgaon on Saturday night. A rape case has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station and the accused has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. The cab was later recovered by the Police in Mathura on Sunday along with the driver's mobile phone, which was switched off. According to the reports, the driver has been detained by the police. Further details are awaited.

PM Modi holds meeting with state CMs on new Planning Commission

New Delhi, Dec 7 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a meeting with chief ministers of all the states to hear their views on the restructuring of the Planning Commission. The meeting was held at PM Modi's residence 7 Race Course Road in New Delhi. In the meeting, discussions took place on the structure and role of the new body that will replace the Planning Commission. However, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah did not attend the meeting. Abdullah cited Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections as the reason for skipping the meet.

Federer and Djokovic arrive in New Delhi for Tennis League

New Delhi, Dec 7 (ANI): Swiss Tennis player Roger Federer and Serbian Tennis player Novak Djokovic arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for the third leg of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). The tournament kicked off in Manila, Philippines on 28th November and now has come to New Delhi before concluding in Dubai on December 13th. The Delhi-based Indian Aces team has players like Federer, Ana Ivanovic, Sania Mirza, Pete Sampras, Gael Monfils, Rohan Bopanna and Fabrice Santoro. Big crowds are expected to come out on Monday when Federer of Indian Aces plays against Djokovic of UAE Royals. The winning team of IPTL will be awarded with a cash prize of one million dollars.

Bangladesh marks day of Indian recognition

Dhaka, Dec 7 (ANI): Bangladesh observed Indian recognition day with poise, which the country attained after the 1971 liberation war and was recognized as an independent and sovereign nation. A seminar on "Indo-Bangladesh Relations and Regional Security" was organized in the capital city of Dhaka to mark the event. Delegates attending the seminar expressed their gratitude towards India for helping the country during the war for liberation. Emphasizing on the security between the two countries and the region in general, the Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Sandeep Chatterjee said that the two countries can take an initiative towards fighting militancy in the region.

Omar Abdullah and Mamata Banerjee to skip PM's meet with Chief Ministers

New Delhi, Dec 07 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states on Sunday to discuss reconstructing of Planning Commission. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has planned to skip the meeting drawing flak from the ruling party's leaders. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that it is the decision of the respective Chief Ministers whether or not to attend the meeting. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that by skipping PM's meeting Abdullah and Banerjee are only causing harm to their own state.

Huge cache of explosives recovered in Assam

Assam, Dec 7 (ANI): India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel recovered a huge quantity of explosives from Bokajan town in Assam. The explosives, including 86 packets of gelatin sticks, 30 packets of detonators, and 286 metres of cable wires, were seized from a bus which was coming from Shillong and was heading to Dimapur. The CRPF has arrested the two drivers of the buses and will conduct the further investigation to find out whether any militant outfit was indulged. Northeast consists of eight states which are beset with militancy and insurgency.

Assam Police arrest accused in suspected plot to kill Bangladesh PM

Guwahati, Dec 7 (ANI): Assam police arrested a key suspect behind a blast in West Bengal who is also believed to have been involved in a plot to assassinate Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and stage a coup there. Shahnor Alom, who was arrested in a village in Assam, is an operative of a banned Bangladeshi group active in West Bengal, a senior intelligence officer said. According to a police officer, he was caught hiding in his relative's house in a village in Nalbari district of Assam. Director General of Police for Assam, Khagen Sharma, said Alom had a very good rapport with militant leaders from both West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The body of lieutenant colonel Sankalp Shukla, martyred in the deadly attack in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, reached Ranchi. Militants sneaked into an Indian military camp in Kashmir on Friday, killing 11 soldiers and police, the worst losses for security forces in six years in Jammu and Kashmir.
