Congress criticises land acquisition ordinance, says not in favour of farmers

Greater Noida, Jan 14 (ANI): Congress party on Wednesday criticised central government’s land acquisition ordinance, saying it is not favour of farmers. India passed an urgent executive order last year on December 29 to ease land-acquisition rules in sectors like power, housing and defence to kick-start hundreds of billions of dollars in stalled projects. Jairam Ramesh while addressing a group of farmers in Bhatta Parsaul village in Uttar Pradesh said the BJP-led government is snatching away the rights of farmers by changing things which took years to form. Naqvi taken into custody for breaching prohibitory orders during 2009 LS polls, gets bail

Rampur, Jan 14 (ANI): Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was taken into judicial custody in Rampur on Wednesday for alleged poll code violation. Naqvi's arrest took place after a local court in Rampur sentenced him to one year in jail for violating the Model Code of Conduct during the 2009 general elections. However, Naqvi was later released on bail. An FIR had been registered against Naqvi and his supporters during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Rampur. Naqvi had allegedly breached the prohibitory orders in force and barged into a police station along with his party workers at Patwai area of Rampur parliamentary constituency while campaigning for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
