Paris attacks anniversary: Witness Daniel Psenny on capturing Bataclan horror

One year ago, on 13 November 2015, Paris was hit by a series of terror attacks which claimed the lives of 130 people, injured a further 368. The most devastating attack was at the Bataclan theatre, where 89 people were killed whilst attending a concert by rock band Eagles of Death Metal.Le Monde journalist Daniel Psenny was working at home at the time when he heard what he thought was fireworks. From his balcony, overlooking an alleyway outside the Bataclan, he could see people fleeing in terror from the venue. The video footage he recorded of the incident, particularly of a pregnant woman clinging to the window on the Batalcans second floor, was shown around the world.Psenny himself was later shot when he tried to help a man who had collapsed on the pavement. Across the US protesters continue to march against Trump’s election as president for the second day in a row. Many students in cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix and San Francisco staged walkouts. During the night protests turned more aggressive. A large group of anti-Trump protesters blocked a highway in Minneapolis. Portland Police declared the protests riots “due to extensive criminal and dangerous behaviour”.Protesters outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC chanted “Love Trumps Hate”, Hillary Clinton’s election slogan. Music legend Leonard Cohen dies aged 82

A statement on Cohens Facebook page said that he had died, but gave no further details. Cohen, a native of Quebec, was already a celebrated poet and novelist when he moved to New York in 1966 at 31 to break into the music business. Before long, critics were comparing him to Bob Dylan for the lyrical force of his songwriting. Cohen, who never married, is survived by his daughter, Lorca, and his son, Adam. Nov 11, 2016
