Jaswant Singh very critical after head injury, put on life support system

New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Former Defence Minister Jaswant Singh has been put on life support system at the Army Research and Referral Hospital, where he was admitted after reportedly slipping at home and grievously injuring his head. A Defence Ministry statement said that, "At present the condition is very critical. He is on life support systems and under constant monitoring by a team of neurosurgeons and critical care providers." Examination at the hospital showed him to be in coma, with signs of 'raised intracranial tension and a haematoma scalp'. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at the hospital to enquire about the former BJP leader’s health. BASIC countries meet in New Delhi to hold talks on climate change

New Delhi, Aug 8 (ANI): The ministers of the BASIC nations - China, Brazil, South Africa and India held talks on environment change in New Delhi on Friday and discussed the future course of action on climate negotiations. The leaders, along with their negotiators, held strategic talks with India's Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar ahead of the forthcoming rounds of climate negotiations aimed at forming the global 2015 agreement. BASIC Group is a platform of the four countries for coordination on issues related to climate change. Javadekar emphasized on the importance of developing nations in initiating steps towards climate change. New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants staged another protest on Friday in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, forcing Delhi Police to detain some of them. Yesterday, the Rajya Sabha had also witnessed uproar over the issue of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) of the UPSC examinations. UPSC aspirants have been protesting vociferously against the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) examination, which was introduced in 2011, demanding that it be made easy for rural students. Earlier, in a bid to resolve the CSAT row, the government took a decision that the marks of English section will not be included for merit. US President Barack Obama authorizes airstrikes in Northern Iraq

New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): United States President Barack Obama has sanctioned airstrikes in Northern Iraq against the Islamic State fighters to avoid a possible 'genocide'. Obama on Thursday announced that he had authorized the US military to launch air strikes against ISIS militants in Iraq if they threatened the Kurdish capital of Erbil or the thousands of Yazidi minority civilians trapped on Mount Sinjar, both in northern Iraq. Although, Obama said that the US, after withdrawing its forces from Iraq at the end of 2011, did not intend to get involved into a war again, but the recent developments came in the wake of Iraqi government’s request for help.
