Lucknow, Nov 10 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday filed his nomination papers for election to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on the last date for nomination on ten seats of the state. At present he is not member of any house in the parliament. Elections, if needed, will be held on November 20. Samajwadi Party, BSP and Congress party nominees have already filed their nominations. Parrikar said he was proud to file nomination from UP. Further the Defence Minister said that he would be defenceless before press but never let the nation be defenceless. Nov 10, 2014

Chandigarh/ Hisar, Nov 10 (ANI): Police and state administration in Punjab beefed up security measures on Monday (November 10) hours before murder-accused Sant Rampal is produced in court for contempt. Rampal faces contempt for skipping judicial proceedings before a sessions court in Hisar last Wednesday (November 05), after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him and his aide. He had been earlier shifted to Barwala town in the Hisar district but will now be produced in the joint state Punjab and Haryana High Court. The District Collector (DC) of the Chandigarh administration where Rampal is to be produced later on Monday (November 10), Mohammed Shayin, said that security measures had been beefed up judging how last time about 50, 000 of his supporters had collected in protest. Rampal has been charged with murder; attempt to commit murder and other charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2006 after his followers attacked villagers. Nov 10, 2014

New Delhi/ Chennai, Nov 10 (ANI): BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, said on Monday (November 10) that five fishermen sentenced to death in Sri Lanka on the charge of drug trafficking will be transferred to an Indian jail. He said the fishermen, belonging to Tamil Nadu, will be transferred to India as per the agreement between the two countries, signed in year 2010. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. Meanwhile, Swamy said the deadlock was broken after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the issue. The arrest of the Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy has been a major topic of debate between the two nations.
