Harsh Vardhan Shringla was on Thursday appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United States. He will succeed Navtej Sarna, who is expected to retire this month. 

Shringla is an Indian Foreign Services officer from the 1984-batch and a graduate of St. Stephen's College in New Delhi. He is serving as the High Commissioner to Bangladesh. To fill this position, senior diplomat Riva Ganguly Das has been appointed as the new High Commissioner to Bangladesh. She was earlier serving as the Director General of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

Prior to this role, Shringla was the Indian Ambassador to Thailand and has held similar portfolios for the past 34 years.

For instance, Shringla worked at UNESCO in France, the United Nations in New York and has also served different roles in countries like South Africa and Israel. Shringla has also worked in various capacities in India.
