Jaipur offers prayers for peace on 6th anniversary of 2008 serial blasts

Jaipur, May 14 (ANI): Hailing peace and harmony, the residents of pink city of Jaipur in Rajasthan offered prayers to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the 2008 serial blasts that blew away more than 60 lives in the city. According to official sources, nine bombs exploded in markets and near a temple in Jaipur in a span of fifteen minutes, killing around 60 and wounding over 150 people on May 13, 2008. The residents of the city, on Tuesday, thronged the temple of Lord Hanuman, one of the blast sites, to perform prayers for those killed in the blast and also to hail peace in the city. The blasts triggered a stampede- like situation at the sites, crammed with peak-hour shoppers as panic-stricken people ran helter skelter in search of a safe place. May 14, 2014

Govt appoints Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag as new Army Chief

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): The UPA Government has named Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh Suhag as the country's next Army Chief. Lt Gen Dalbir Singh is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and will take over from General Bikram Singh who is set to retire on July 31. The Election Commission on Monday had given its assent to the Central Government to appoint the next army chief. The poll panel has given its go ahead to the Defence Ministry to start the process of appointing the new army chief. CPI (M) calls for re-polling in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 14 (ANI): Communist party of India (Marxist) accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of West Bengal of rigging the polls and calls for re-polling at various polling stations in Kolkata city. TMC leaders said on Monday that the media is hyping up a few minor clashes that took place during the last phase of polling between party supporters and the CPI (M) workers. Crude bombs were also hurled at the residence of BJP leader Meena Devi Purohit, in Kolkata city on Monday. However, the bombs did not explode. Hundreds of supporters and leaders of CPI (M) marched on the roads of Kolkata demanding re polling. At least 200 dead, several injured after coal mine explosion in Turkey

Turkey, May 14 (ANI): A fire caused by a transformer explosion at a coal mine in Western Turkey early Wednesday has left at least 200 workers dead and scores injured. Energy Ministry Taner Yildiz said 787 people had been inside the mine at Soma in Manisa province when an electrical fault triggered the blast. Rescuers worked through the night to try to reach hundreds more miners still trapped underground. Almost 363 of those trapped had been rescued. Rescue workers pumped oxygen into the mine to keep those trapped by the blaze alive, as thousands of family members and fellow workers, clamoring for information, gathered outside the town's hospital. Security guards detain one anticipating security threat to Mahabodhi temple

Bodhgaya, May 14 (ANI): The district police of Gaya in Bihar detained a visitor anticipating a security threat over his controversial remark after being barred from entering the Mahabodhi temple premises with his mobile phone. The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) detained the visitor-a monk, Aanand from Maharashtra, when he insisted on carrying his mobile phone inside the temple premises, despite safety restrictions. He was barred by the security authorities, which led to an altercation and the monk reportedly said that another bomb blast would take place at the temple.
