Oommen Chandy ready to compensate on revenue loss to Kerala due to liquor ban

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 23 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said ban on liquor policy in the state can prove to be a loss to the government but he is willing to overcome it. The Congress-led government in Kerala announced on Thursday that it would make Kerala alcohol-free in the next 10 years. The proposal was taken at a two-hour meeting at the chief minister’s residence. Chandy said the new policy will be applicable for the five-star hotels serving liquor from the next fiscal. Chandy added the policy will be submitted to the Kerala High Court on August 26. Chandy said the ban could cause three-fold problems to the state. The state Finance Minister KM Mani said the loss of revenue to the state due to the ban calculated for the upcoming fiscal is 1,811 crore rupees.

Ceasefire Violation shows desperation of Pak Army: Security Expert

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Talking about the continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistan, Security Expert Alok Bansal said that the violations show desperation of the Pakistan Army. He said that the larger agenda of these attacks might be to divert attention of the people from the internal situation in Pakistan to the LoC. Further, asked about a 50 meters long tunnel from Pakistan to Indian border, Bansal said that this is one more attempt by the Pakistani troops to infiltrate into Indian Territory, which won’t be easy.

Indian Army and militants locked in fierce gun battle in Kupwara

Kupwara, Aug 23 (ANI): Fierce gun battle is going on between Indian army and militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Acting on an intelligence input, soldiers launched a search operation in Gugerpati area to nab ultras on Friday evening. The extremists hiding in the area opened fire at soldiers, leading to exchange of fire. Militants have been frequently attacking security bases in Kashmir since the 1990s, when there was a full-blown insurgency against Indian rule in a region over which India and Pakistan fought two of their three wars.

Social media has become effective tool in peace disruptions: APJ Abdul Kalam

Kochi, Aug 23 (ANI): Former President APJ Abdul Kalam said that social media has become an effective tool in peace disruptions. Kalam was speaking at the inauguration of 'Security and Hacking Conference Cocon-2014' in Kochi city of Kerala, where he mainly addressed issues to combat increasing cyber crimes. He also said India should master the social media analytics. The two-day meeting will see the participation of experts from cyber space, crime officials and hackers from across India and abroad. Kalam also stressed on the need to conquer cyber security.

Jitan Ram Manjhi calls on Dalit community to increase their population

Patna, Aug 23 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday called on to the Dalit community and urged them to increase their population by marrying outside their caste. Major ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops kills two civilians

Jammu, Aug 23 (ANI): At least two civilians have been killed and many others injured in one of most intense firing along the International Border so far. Continuing to violate the ceasefire agreement, the Pakistani troops targeted 22 Border Security Force posts and several villages in the Arnia and RS Pura sectors using long range mortar shells and heavy to medium machine guns. One jawan has also been injured in the most intense firing on the border so far, that is reportedly still on. All the injured people have been shifted to the Jammu Medical College for treatment. Meanwhile, Residents from villages near the border are terrified and demanding relief and evacuation by the government.

IAF Chief Arup Raha inaugurates 54th annual conference of ISAM

Bangalore, Aug 23 (ANI): Chief of Indian Air Force (IAF), Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha inaugurated the 54th annual conference of Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ISAM) in Bangalore. Senior officers of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, 200 national and 10 international delegates will be participating in the three-day long conference. The theme of the conference is ‘Opportunities sans boundaries’ and will have two orations and two guest lecturers. Chinese students learn Hindi in Ahmedabad to improve business prospects

Ahmedabad, Aug 23 (ANI): Chinese students from commerce and humanities background are learning Hindi in Ahmedabad to improve their skills, jobs and business prospects. Despite twitchy relations and occasional heated rhetoric, business relations between India and China have boomed for more than a decade. Hindi language is spoken in large parts of India, especially in north, east and west. Chinese Student, Cho Chaw Hao, said knowledge of language would help her communicate better with her local clients. Another student, Annie, wanted to know Hindi to learn more about the country.
