It happens: Lunar eclipse holy dip

Varanasi/Hyderabad, Oct 10 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu devotees in the temple town of Varanasi took a holy dip in river Ganges on the occasion of the lunar eclipse on October 08 to cleanse their souls and achieve salvation. According to belief, bathing in the holy water on the occasion of the eclipse helps in washing away of the sins of the people. As per Hindu tradition, an eclipse occurs because a demon named Rahu occasionally gobbles up the sun or the moon before letting them off after a certain period. This period is considered very ominous by devout Hindus and prayers and chants are performed by them and then once the eclipse is over, they bathe or take a holy dip in sacred rivers, like the Ganges. The event was a stunning one as the moon appeared copper to deep red. This was due to the rays of the Sun, refracted by the Earth's atmosphere. People in India's eastern Kolkata, too, got a chance to get a glimpse of the spectacular celestial event. Star lovers in North America, Australia, western South America and parts of eastern Asia were able to see the spectacle.

SC adjourns Delhi Govt formation matter till Oct 28

The policy was launched on the occasion of the first ever National Mental Health Day organized by the government. On the occasion, Harsh Vardhan said that universal access to mental health care is a specific goal of the government, and it would find substantial articulation in the evolving National Health Policy and National Health Assurance Mission (NHAM). The policy's objective is to provide universal access to mental health care by enhancing understanding of mental health and strengthening leadership in the mental health sector at all levels.

BSE closes points 339.90 down on Oct 10

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 339.90 points down to stand at 26,297.38. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 100.60 points down to stand at 7,859.95. JETAIRWAYS and ABAN were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 9.30% and 9.15% along with INFY and DEN with an increase of 6.49% and 6.01% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include KAILASH and UNITECH with a decrease of 10.93% and 6.33% along with JSWSTEEL and JINDAL STEEL with a decrease of 6.00% and 5.77% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 447.86 points at 17,396.24 while the banking sector is down 323.63 points at 17,694.23 and the reality sector is down 24.70 points at 1,592.08. The Indian currency is down 0.32% at Rs 61.24 per dollar.

Six killed in cylinder blast in Delhi's Jasola

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Six persons, including three children and women, were killed in a cylinder blast in Delhi's Jasola area Friday afternoon. Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi wins Nobel Peace Prize 2014

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Children's rights activists Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 on Friday. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the names of the two "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." The award also comes with a $1.24 million check. Yousafzai, now 17, is a schoolgirl and education campaigner in Pakistan who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman two years ago. Satyarthi, 60, has maintained the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and headed various forms of peaceful protests, "focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain," the Nobel committee said.
