Cyclone Hudhud has hit Jharkhand but with low intensity: Ranchi IMD

Ranchi, Oct 12 (ANI): Ranchi IMD Director BK Mandal on Sunday said that the Cyclone Hudhud has hit Jharkhand but with low intensity. He said that there is rainfall in the state since the morning and is expected to continue till tomorrow. He said that from Tuesday, situation will improve and the weather will get back to normal. Mandal also advised the residents to remain inside their homes and those living in mud houses should move to a reliable shelter. He also said that the department had informed the state government and rescue teams and all essential measures are being taken on their part.

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): Taylor Swift has been named Billboard Woman of the Year 2014 which makes her the first artist to receive the award twice. Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group, which includes Billboard, said that as one of the most influential artists of her generation, Swift had seen incredible success on the Billboard charts. Indian army conducts mock drill in Poonch in wake of Pakistan firing

Poonch, Oct 12 (ANI): Indian army conducted mock drill in Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir to avoid any casualty during ceasefire violation by Pakistan. India and Pakistan exchanged gunfire across the Kashmir frontier on Saturday. Pakistani troops heavily shelled 15 border out posts and hamlets along the International Border overnight, leaving three persons injured, one of them seriously in Jammu district. After nine days of attacking each other with mortars and heavy machine guns, the two armies abruptly stopped fighting on Thursday night (October 09), although their governments kept up the war of words blaming the other of launching unprovoked fire. Poonch has reported 10 injuries and a death during the cross-border firing. Meanwhile, as part of the mock drill, the army instructed villagers to wait for a siren, after which they should immediately evacuate roads and hide behind solid structures.

Total 67752 people evacuated in Odisha, more evacuations likely: Naveen Patnaik on Cyclone Hudhud

Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday took a review meeting on Cyclone Hudhud and said that total of 67752 people have been evacuated so far to 604 safe shelters. Patnaik said that more evacuations are likely and that the government is taking all precautions whatsoever. Meanwhile, strong wind close to about 50 kmph and heavy rain started in southern Odisha districts with very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud nearing the coast from Sunday morning.

Relief and rescue operations crtical over Vizag: IMD

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): IMD DG LS Rathore on Sunday while addressing a press conference said that the relief and rescue operations are critical in Vishakhapatnam and the department is hoping that the aircrafts can be deployed by the 13th morning if the speed of winds decreases. India celebrates World Space Week to mark the success of Mars mission

Kozhikode, Oct 12 (ANI): India celebrated World Space Week in Kozhikode district of Kerala to mark the success of its Mars mission, where many enthusiast school and college students attended the space exhibition organized by the Regional Science Centre and Planetarium. India's first mission to Mars had entered orbit on September 24, making it the first Asian nation to reach the Red Planet. The spacecraft, called Mangalyaan, was launched in November last year by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The World Space Week started on October 04 and concluded on October 10. Various activities for school and college students were organized with the most entertaining being the water rocket competition.
