SC adjourns Delhi Govt formation matter till Oct 28

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the matter of government formation in Delhi till October 28. The lawyer said that the Central Government informed the Supreme Court that the matter is still pending for the President's consideration. He added that whenever the decision is taken it will be communicated to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and the media.

Modi exhorts tribal youth to shun guns, pick plough in Maharashtra

Brahmapuri, Oct 10 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday exhorted people of Maoist belt in Maharashtra to shun guns, pick plough and bring BJP to power for their bright future, while addressing an election rally. Modi while addressing the rally in Maoist-infested Brahmapuri radicalised the youth of the place by giving a comparison of the usage of gun vis-a-vis plough and the ensuing benefits. Violence can never resolve any issue, said the Prime Minister with a view to enlighten the youth who opt for making violence as their means for life. Modi sought complete majority for the BJP in the state, and said that the party was required for development in the state.

Harsh Vardhan unveils nation's first ever mental health policy

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday unveiled the nation's first ever mental health policy. The policy was launched on the occasion of the first ever National Mental Health Day organized by the government. On the occasion, Harsh Vardhan said that universal access to mental health care is a specific goal of the government, and it would find substantial articulation in the evolving National Health Policy and National Health Assurance Mission (NHAM). The policy's objective is to provide universal access to mental health care by enhancing understanding of mental health and strengthening leadership in the mental health sector at all levels.

BSE closes points 339.90 down on Oct 10

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 339.90 points down to stand at 26,297.38. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 100.60 points down to stand at 7,859.95. JETAIRWAYS and ABAN were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 9.30% and 9.15% along with INFY and DEN with an increase of 6.49% and 6.01% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include KAILASH and UNITECH with a decrease of 10.93% and 6.33% along with JSWSTEEL and JINDAL STEEL with a decrease of 6.00% and 5.77% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 447.86 points at 17,396.24 while the banking sector is down 323.63 points at 17,694.23 and the reality sector is down 24.70 points at 1,592.08. The Indian currency is down 0.32% at Rs 61.24 per dollar.

Six killed in cylinder blast in Delhi's Jasola

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Six persons, including three children and women, were killed in a cylinder blast in Delhi's Jasola area Friday afternoon. According to the fire department, they got a call from a house in Jasola area around 11:30 AM following which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot in order to douse the fire. Shadab, a resident in the locality said that he and others tried to save the people but the smoke became a hindrance.

Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi wins Nobel Peace Prize 2014

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Children's rights activists Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 on Friday. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the names of the two "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." The award also comes with a $1.24 million check. Yousafzai, now 17, is a schoolgirl and education campaigner in Pakistan who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman two years ago. Satyarthi, 60, has maintained the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and headed various forms of peaceful protests, "focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain," the Nobel committee said.

Increased Latrine Coverage not the only solution for India's sanitation problems

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): A new study has revealed that increased latrine coverage is not the only solution for preventing disease, as efforts to improve sanitation should also be implemented in a way that delivers genuine health gains. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a rural sanitation intervention, within the context of the Government of India's Total Sanitation Campaign, to prevent diarrhea, soil-transmitted helminth infection, and child malnutrition. The scientists conducting a cluster-randomized trial in 100 rural villages in Odisha, India and randomly assigned 50 villages to the intervention group and 50 villages to the control group.
