It Happens: 3D street painting in Kashmir attracts locals as well as tourists

Srinagar, Sept 5 (ANI): In a bid to promote 3D art in India, famed artists converged in Jammu and Kashmir state and painted a street in Srinagar city. Artists said the 3D painting was common in foreign countries and should also be encouraged in India. The 3D street painting event took place at Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal lake. The unique art initiative was organised by state’s tourism department along with an event and sports management company, to attract locals as well as tourists. The street painting was being done by a group of painters from Kerala and Mexico. To spread the knowledge of 3D street painting in India, the group is going to travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The artists made 3D paintings of Kashmiri goats standing in front of a water and the signboard reading ‘Kashmir’. Schoolchildren, tourists and locals enthusiastically watched the entire process. Kashmir, once dubbed the Switzerland of the east was once heaven for skiers, honeymooners and film-makers who were drawn to its soaring peaks, fruit orchards and timber houseboats on the Dal lake in capital Srinagar. Lawyers hail SC's order to release undertrials languishing in jail for years

Chennai/New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Lawyers hailed the apex court orders to release undertrials who have served more than half of the maximum punishment they were charged with in jail. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered to free all such undertrials. The court directed all judicial officers to start visiting prisons from October 01 and file a report, within two months, on prisoners released by them. Meanwhile, former judge of Delhi High Court, Justice RS Sodhi, said the decision came after the intervention of executives in the matter. As per law, prisoners awaiting trial must be released once they have served half the maximum sentence they would receive if found guilty, but that law is rarely implemented. Sep 5, 2014
