Kolkata remembers Mother Teresa on her 17th death anniversary

Kolkata, Sep 05 (ANI): Special prayer session was organised by missionaries of charity, the global order of nuns founded by Mother Teresa in Kolkata city on Friday to observe her 17th death anniversary. Mother Teresa was a Nobel Peace Prize-winning nun who died in 1997, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003 at the Vatican. The ethnic Albanian Roman Catholic nun, who dedicated her life to poor, sick and dying in India, had made Kolkata city her home. The Superior General of Missionaries of Charity, Sister Prema said they remember her everyday and draw motivation to achieve what Mother Teresa had dreamed of. She had qualified for beatification and was given the title "Blessed Teresa of Calcutta".

Heavy rains create havoc in Kashmir, rescue operations on

Udhampur, Sep 05 (ANI): Heavy rains inundated many villages in Jammu and Kashmir killing at least 65 people. Incessant rains for the past about 48 hours have resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water in all rivers. The Indian Army has immediately moved in deploying rescue operations in floods affected regions of Naoshera, Rajouri, Thanamandi and Poonch district of the state. The Army has been able to rescue almost 108 civilians as search and rescue operations are in full swing. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades.

Common man happy with Narendra Modi as prime minister: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that people of India are elated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Naidu was addressing a news conference with journalists at the Press Club of India. When asked about the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not taking any initiative to hold elections in Delhi, he said his party will again witness a sweeping victory if it happens. He added that with regard to holding elections in the national capital, the assessment has to be made by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Answering a query about Congress party, blaming the BJP for trying to spread fear of terror in the country, he slammed the party by saying it is not able to reconcile to the reality of the current political situation in the country.

P Sathasivam takes oath as Governor of Kerala

Trivandrum, Sep 05 (ANI): Former chief justice of India P Sathasivam on Friday took oath as the governor of Kerala at the Raj Bhavan in Trivandrum. Sathasivam was administered oath by acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court Ashok Bhushan. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, his cabinet colleagues and top officials were also present on the occasion. Sathasivam had arrived here Thursday evening to take oath as the new governor of Kerala. He succeeds former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who had resigned last week and who flew out of the state Thursday.

Indo-Bangladesh business conclave in Dhaka emphasizes on enhancing trade relations with northeast re

Dhaka, Sep 05 (ANI): Investors, entrepreneurs, policy makers, ministers and government officials from India and Bangladesh came together in Dhaka for a 2-day long business conclave, in an effort to enhance bilateral trade and connectivity. Another aim was to tap Bangladesh's business potential with India's northeastern region and West Bengal state. The conclave titled 'A New Phase in Bilateral Economic Relations' was organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry with support from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. The 31 member Indian delegation was led by DoNER minister Gen. (retd) V.K. Singh. The participants focused on finding ways for the removal of bottlenecks in the free flow of trade and commerce between the 2 countries and strengthening connectivity on all fronts.
