Andhra Pradesh to participate in tsunami mock drill

Visakhapatnam, Sep 10 (ANI): The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) is all geared up to participate along with 23 countries in a major two-day Indian Ocean-wide mock drill, which will simulate tsunamis generated by two large undersea earthquakes on September 9 and 10 to test the emergency response services in the region. The drill, which is going to be conducted by Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and organized by UNESCO'S Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, aims at testing the potential of Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System. Blame game begins as musical instrument of shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan goes missing

Varanasi, Sep 10 (ANI): Blame game began on Wednesday as musical instrument, 'shehnai', of shehnai maestro and receipt of country's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna', Ustad Bismillah Khan, went missing. According to the sons of the shehani maestro, the musical instrument went missing in 2009 and so far no report has been registered with the police. There has been a family dispute regarding Khan's property among his sons and nobody is aware about the things which the Ustad used to posses. Bridge constructed by Army in Jammu brings respite to flood- hit area

Jammu, Sep 10 (ANI): The Army in Jammu built a temporary bridge linking flood- ravaged villages to the city, providing relief to the people after the region's worst floods for 50 years destroyed a number of key crossings and wreaked havoc in the area. Due to heavy floods the bridge on river Tawi was completely damaged. Nearly 45000 people living in about 45 villages in the surrounding area were cut off from the city. The Army and Air Force dropped relief material in the area, while Army boats helped people to commute to the other side of the river. Brigadier P K Mishra said that the Army has constructed a temporary bridge on the river Tawi and named it 'Rahat Setu' meaning bridge of relief. Sep 10, 2014

Sushma Swaraj arrives in Afghanistan to bolster ties

Kabul, Sep 10 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Afghanistan, on Wednesday in a bid to bolster ties between the two countries and review key projects that have been implemented in the region by India. Swaraj held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on crucial bilateral and regional issues, as well as on defence and security assistance from India. Swaraj also met her Afghanistani counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani. She is also expected to hold meeting with presidential candidates in Kabul and inaugurate the new Indian embassy.
