MEA briefing on first day of 2015 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Gandhinagar, Jan 08 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Thursday briefed mediapersons on the first day of the 2015 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Akbaruddin said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with dignitaries from South Africa, Mauritius and Guyana and talked about increasing cooperation in trade, along with other areas mutually beneficially to their respective nations. He said that PM Modi has assured Guyana that in the list of 43 countries that are granted visa on arrival, another country Guyana was added. He also said that the prime minister has been invited to Mauritius for Independence Day of the nation on March 12 to which the PM will consider according to his schedules. Jan 8, 2015

Security experts on fresh firing in Paris

New Delhi, Jan 8 (ANI): A day after the deadly attack on a satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris, a police officer has been shot in fresh firing in the city's southern edge in France. Gandhinagar, Jan 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday formally inaugurated the 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which is being held in Gujarat to mark the centenary of India's, 'Sarva Sreshtha Pravasi Bharatiya', Mahatma Gandhi's return from South Africa to India. Modi called on the Diaspora to participate in growth of India. He also invited the people to use several opportunities waiting for them in India. He said that all the countries of the world, whether developed or poor, are looking at India with immense hope and optimism. He further went on to add that Indian community is admired all around the world not due to the money they possess but the values they live with. Invoking Gandhi, Modi said his philosophies and teachings continue to inspire the world when it comes to humane development and resolving various problems facing the world. Modi also boosted the confidence of the Indian Diaspora and said that the nation has lot to offer to the world and the need is to raise the level of confidence in ourselves. Jan 8, 2015

Prakash Javadekar cleans up his housing complex as part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'

Pune, Jan 08 (ANI): Taking the ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) forward, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar cleans up his housing complex along with fellow residents in Pune on Thursday. Javadekar said the campaign would help in disciplined nation building. A campaign called 'plastic waste-free India' will be launched in Shirur area of Pune district on Friday.
