BJP chief plays development plank, urges people in Odisha to join party

Bhubaneswar, Jan 07 (ANI): BJP Chief Amit Shah, on Wednesday urged people of Odisha to join hands with his party for overall development of the state. Shah, who is in Odisha on a membership drive, was addressing a rally in Gauri village. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had registered as BJP's first online member from New Delhi. Reactions pour in after Pak SC denies bail to 26/11 Mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Jan 07 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Wednesday after Pakistan's Supreme Court denied bail to 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Defence expert Praful Bakshi said that Pakistan's judiciary seems to have its own voice. Defence expert Uday Bhaskar said that the decision should be cautiously welcomed. Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that the decision was taken by the judiciary after Government of India strongly lodged the protest against Lakhvi's bail. Jan 7, 2015

MEA announces series of events for 2015 Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Part - 2

Gandhinagar, Jan 07 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Wednesday announced the series of events to take place at the 2015 Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, the youth part of which commenced today amidst tight security in Gandhinagar. The event marks the centenary of the return to India of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa. He also said that among other events a stamp and coin will be inaugurated at the function featuring images of Mahatma Gandhi as a bachelor and as Father of the Nation. Akbaruddin also informed that Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj met with her South African counterpart Maite Nkoana-Mashabane today and discussed wide range of issues. Home Minister terms suspicious Pakistani vessel a 'terror boat'

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that the fishing boat found off the western coast laden with explosives was a 'terror boat' intercepted by India. India said its forces had killed four Pakistanis planning an attack on Indian soil, although Indian media and opposition parties disputed the official account. Indian intelligence said the crew was planning "an illicit transaction" when the vessel was intercepted on New Year's Eve in the Arabian Sea, 365 km (225 miles) off India's western coast, according to a government statement. The defence ministry released blurred nighttime photographs of a burning fishing boat, with timestamps around 4 a.m. on New Year's Day. Jan 7, 2015

Pakistan's Supreme Court denies bail to 26/11 Mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi

Islamabad, Jan 07 (ANI): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday setting aside Islamabad High Court's (IHC) decision, denied suspension of the detention of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, accused of plotting the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. According to the media reports, Pak SC declared IHC's order of releasing Lakhvi from jail as void and opined that the decision to grant bail to Lakhvi was taken in a hurry. The reports further stated that, Pak SC directed IHC to hear arguments of Lakhvi's lawyer and the Central Government of Pakistan. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had ordered conditional release of Lakhvi and had asked him to deposit a security bond of Rs 1 million in response to his petition seeking an end to his detention.
