People in Jharkhand welcome police's initiative to develop Maoist-affected village

Gumla, June 07 (ANI): Residents of Bishanpur village in Gumla district of Jharkhand have welcomed the initiative taken by police to develop the village and ensure safety and protection from rebel Maoist groups. The state police organized a camp at the Maoist-affected village as a part of social policing. Villagers opined that if the police are actually willing to take such positive steps and continue to help them when they are in dire need, the village will definitely develop and will be curbed of further rebel attacks. Illegal sand mining in Etawah adds to lawlessness in UP

Etawah, June 07 (ANI): Illegal sand mining has become a major issue in Uttar Pradesh. Villagers in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh complained that sand from a natural lake in the area was being mined and at least 150-200 tractors worth of sand was being carted away from the area. Villagers also said no one has complained yet because they believe it to be a government property and they do not know whether the mining is illegal. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley visits Western Naval

Mumbai, June 07 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday visited Western Naval Command to review the operational preparedness. Jaitley may get to see the salvaged INS Sindhurakshak submarine during his visit, which had sunk on August 14 last year after an explosion. During his visit to the Western Command, Jaitley will also commission two fast-attack craft ICGS Achook and ICGS Agrim, of the Indian Coast Guard. This is Jaitley's maiden visit as Defence Minister. Politicians condemn abduction of Indian worker in Afghanistan, press for speedy release

Chennai, June 07 (ANI): Political fraternity condemned the abduction of an Indian aid worker in Afghanistan, and pressed the government to expedite action for his safe release. Cutting across party lines, the leaders from various political parties urged the government to speed up the process for the release of priest Alexis Prem Kumar, who was kidnapped in Herat province of Afghanistan, earlier this month. Leaders made personal appeal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk tough with Afghanistan government and press for safe release of the abducted priest. Meanwhile, CPI leader D Raja said that the abduction was human rights violations and the central government should work towards the release of the priest at the earliest.
