Arun Jaitley holds pre-budget consultations with trade union leaders

New Delhi, June 06 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday held consultations with trade union leaders to seek their inputs for the Budget. Jaitley met the dignitaries in the ministry building in New Delhi. General Secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Tapan Sen urged the government not to pursue deregulation, dis-investment and privatisation of state-run companies. J&K govt enhances retirement age of its employees to 60 years

Srinagar, June 06 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government increased the retirement age of its employees by two years from 58 to 60 years, assenting to demand of the workers. During a news conference, JandK Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, in Srinagar said the government employees are now entitled to work till the age of 60. Worker unions have been protesting for the same for last eight years. Monsoon rains reach India's southern coast

BSE closes points 376.95 up on June 6

New Delhi, June 6 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 376.95 points up to stand at 25,396.46. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 109.30 points up to stand at 7,583.40. TATA GLOBAL and Sobha Developers Ltd. were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 11.23% and 10.68% along with ONGC and Strides Arcolab Ltd. with an increase of 10.57% and 9.54% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Muthoot Finance Ltd. and Jain Irrigation with a decrease of 2.74% and 2.71 % along with SSLT and Hindustan Copper Ltd. with a decrease of 2.53% and 1.83% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 228.09 points at 15,184.52 while the banking sector is up 287.95 points at 17,788.59 and the realty sector is up 101.67 points at 2,128.03. Politicos condemn violent clashes in Golden Temple on operation Blue Star anniversary

Amritsar /New Delhi, June 06 (ANI): Politicos on Friday condemned the violent clashes that erupted between Sikh groups in the premises of Golden Temple, on the 30th anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Clashes took place when members of the Shiromani Akali Dal-controlled SGPC protested against leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Simranjit Singh Mann, who made an attempt to give a speech from rostrum of the Sikh's supreme temporal seat, Akal Takht. Reportedly, one of Mann's supporters tried to snatch the microphone from the custodian of the Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh, in a bid to address devotees. Ranchi/Agra, June 06 (ANI): Residents and tourists across India suffered as severe heat wave conditions intensified unabated on Friday and temperatures rose above 40 degrees Celsius in some states. Tourists visiting the iconic monument Taj Mahal in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh complained of lack of basic facilities like drinking water by the authorities under oppressive heat conditions. The maximum temperature in Agra was recorded above 40 degrees Celsius and the city also faced severe power cuts and acute water crisis. In Jharkhand, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders suffered the most under sweltering sun and looked for ways to beat the heat. Leopard injures 9-year old in Kashmir

Doda, June 06 (ANI): Nine-year-old boy, Arbaz was critically injured after he was attacked by a leopard in Jammu and Kashmir. The big cat attacked the boy in Doda district when he was playing outside his home. He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Doctors attending the victim said the boy's condition was stable and had deep wounds in neck area. Nepal foreign minister expresses need for an anthem to connect SAARC nations

Kathmandu, June 06 (ANI): A delegation of artists has proposed a song written by the Indian poet-diplomat to Nepal Abhay K which has been sung by various Nepali artists to be chosen as the formal SAARC anthem. They met the Nepal foreign minister Mahendra Pandey in Kathmandu. The minister said that efforts will be made for strengthening the people-to-people relationship between SAARC countries. Meanwhile, Nepal foreign minister said that the song has to be presented formally in the upcoming SAARC summit before it is approved unanimously as the formal SAARC anthem. Delhi court convicts 18 policemen in fake encounter case in Uttarakhand

New Delhi/ Dehradun, June 06 (ANI): A Delhi court convicted 18 policemen on Friday for killing a young student in Uttarakhand in a fake encounter. The policemen had shot dead 22-year-old Ranbir in Dehradun in 2009, alleging that he was involved in an extortion racket. The 17 accused were found guilty of murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy while one policeman has been found guilty of destruction of evidence. Victim Ranbir's father, Ravinder Pal, sought capital punishment for some of the convicts. However, Director General of Uttarakhand Police (DGP), BS Sidhu, hinted that his department might move the higher court against the verdict. The trial of the case was transferred from Dehradun to Delhi after Ranbir's family's petition. Jun 6, 2014
