President emphasises on providing livelihood security to lower rungs of society

New Delhi, Nov 03 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday (November 03) said that there is a compelling need to provide livelihood security to those in the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder. Mukherjee inaugurated a Summit on 'Livelihood Security: Realising the vision for 1.3 billion Indians' organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, he presented an honest appraisal of issues concerning livelihood security and expected solutions that would guide policy makers. Mukherjee emphasised on the need of poverty elimination not merely poverty elevation.

Politicos react after GK Vasan quit Congress

New Delhi/ Chennai, Nov 03 (ANI): Political leaders reacted on Monday after Former Union Minister and Congress leader GK Vasan quit the party. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said that in times when a political party is not in power its leaders are required to put in more hard work but leaders who quit are weak at character. President of Congress in Tamil Nadu EVK Elangovan said that the party will not be affected if such leaders leave. CPI leader D Raja said that Vasan quitting Congress will affect Congress in a big way. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that Congress party is facing a turmoil due to which nobody wants to stay in it.

Congress expels GK Vasan

New Delhi, Nov 3 (ANI): Congress leader Ajay Kumar on Monday informed that GK Vasan has been expelled from the Congress officially, for going against the party line. Earlier in the day, Vasan had also informed that he has quit the party and is ready to launch his own new party. Vasan had thanked the Congress leadership for giving him and his cadres some important and responsible roles. He had also said that the cadres were not satisfied with the party's approach and wanted to follow a new political path, which is why he had decided to quit Congress and launch a new party.

Police arrest hardcore Maoist in red corridor of Jharkhand

Gumla, Nov 03 (ANI): The state police along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has arrested a hardcore Maoist and recovered cash along with arms and ammunition in Jharkhand's Gumla district. The Gumla police had received information and immediately sent a team to hunt the dreaded Maoist. The Maoist has been identified as Sushil Ganju and Rs 18,000 were found in his pocket. Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhimsen Tuti, said that this operation was a big success for them as he had carried out many violent Maoist activities in the area. He further said that some sensitive documents and diaries having information about their organization and their activities, is also recovered. Till now fifteen First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against Ganju.

Telangana signs MoU on supply of 1,000 MW power with Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Nov 03 (ANI): Wishing to provide round-the-clock power supply in his state, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh on Monday on supply of 1,000 MW of thermal power generated there on long-term basis. Rao was accompanied by state Finance Minister E Rajender, Principal Secretary S Narsing Rao and a few other officials. Telangana Chief Minister was welcomed by Chhattisgarh Transport Minister Rajesh Munat on his arrival in Raipur. The MoU between the two Chief Ministers will facilitate signing of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between Chhattisgarh Power Trading Corporation and TSGenco for a period of 7 or 12 years at a price to be fixed by the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC).

RJD urges for support from people as Maoists call for boycott of Jharkhand polls

Latehar, Nov 03 (ANI): RJD candidate urged people to vote during state polls in Jharkhand as Maoists have called for boycott of elections. The five-phased state assembly polls in Jharkhand will begin from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. In Manika constituency of Jharkhand's Latehar district, rebels from Communist Party of India (Maoist) painted long declarations of boycotting state polls on walls of schools and other buildings in the marketplace. They appealed the voters not to vote and called for total boycott. This has left political parties and their candidates in a quandary, as they too appealed to the public to support them. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialization.

Shahnawaz Hussain receives threat call, says will not get scared

New Delhi/ Patna, Nov 03 (ANI): BJP Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain has allegedly received threat calls from Dubai for supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A case has been registered after Hussain submitted a complaint at the Parliament Street police station. In his complaint, the BJP leader said he received two calls from a Dubai number when he was on his way to his residence in Delhi from the airport. Meanwhile, Information and Broadcast Minister Prakash Javadekar said that it was an unfortunate incident.

Kejriwal says BJP inciting riots in Delhi; politicos react

New Delhi, Nov 03 (ANI): The BJP on Monday (November 03) said that chief of Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal should not be taken seriously over his tweet on recent communal violence in Delhi. Referring to recent communal tensions in New Delhi's Trilokpuri area, Kejriwal on Monday blamed the BJP of inciting riots in Delhi. The Congress too blamed the ruling BJP of invoking communal tension with the help of its party cadres and parent body Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to polarise votes. However, a leader of Aam Aadmi (Common Man) Party (AAP), Rahul Mehra said that BJP is running away from elections.

India to set up centre for Zoo Sciences: Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi, Nov 03 (ANI): Environment and Forests Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that the government would be setting up a centre for zoo Sciences very soon. While speaking at the 69th conference of World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), Javadekar said that children are restricted to watching wildlife on television only and they should get a better understanding by visiting zoos. The minister added that the institution would act as a technical advisor to Central Zoo Authority and provide help to several states. Research work will also be conducted in the institution. Javadekar said he expects that the research work will lead to in-breeding of endangered species. The conference is being attended by 180 participants from 35 countries and will conclude on November 06.

Delhi Govt Formation: Kejriwal to skip meet called by LG

New Delhi, Nov 03 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal won't be attending the meeting called by Delhi LG Najeeb Jung today in order to hold discussions on government formation in the national capital. The LG had last week told the Supreme Court that he would be consulting all the political parties in his efforts to form a government in Delhi. In a letter to the LG, Kejriwal said that due to prior commitments, he would not be able to attend the meet but would like to know the BJP's stand on the matter. Meanwhile, the Congress continues to demand for a fresh election to form a government at the national capital.

Delhi Elections: Reports of BJP wanting elections, LG calls all party meet

New Delhi, Nov 3 (ANI): In the latest development in events regarding government formation in Delhi the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has called for an all party meet to decide the further course of action. Following this, reportedly the BJP has also asked the LG that it is ready to go for polls in the capital city. BJP leader Parvesh Verma said that the party will tell its stand after the meeting with LG. BJP leader RP Singh said that BJP is ready for polls.
