Hindu Women Conference discusses role of fair sex in Indian Politics

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Hindu Women Conference, a part of World Hindu Congress being held in New Delhi, on Saturday discussed the role that the fair sex can play in Indian politics and urged them to emerge as powerful as their counterparts were in ancient times. The three-day event began on Friday and will culminate on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that politics is an open box of which women have always been a part since ancient times. Sitharaman encouraged the women present at the conference not to keep a low profile in the field of politics, otherwise they will be lost. Sitharaman also added that even the most powerful maker (God) had to have a feminine quality in hand. She also advised women politicians to speak up for their work. The conference is scheduled to have 45 sessions attracting educationists and scientists from across the globe. Nov 22, 2014

SP supporters thrash toll plaza employees in Barabanki, Politicos condemn state govt for 'deteriorat

Barabanki/ New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Supporters of the ruling Samajwadi Party leader Abhay Singh were caught on camera mercilessly thrashing toll plaza attendants in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh in broad daylight. No formal complaint has been filed with the police yet. Although Barabanki SP Abdul Hamid said that case lists names of three unidentified people and investigations are on. The whole incident was recorded by a close circuit camera inside one of the booths. Condemning the state government, party president in UP, Laxmikant Bajpai said that if police don't take action in the case, people of UP will take action during the state polls. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria and Congress' Rashid Alvi also took jibe on SP government in UP and said that law should take its course or else it could lead to further depleting the law and order situation in the state. Winter Session of Parliament to begin from Nov 24

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): The Winter Session of Parliament begins from November 24 and ends on December 23. It will consist of 22 sittings. There are 67 bills currently pending before the Parliament. Of these, nine bills were introduced in the previous Session of Parliament, while 40 of these were introduced in the 15th Lok Sabha, which was the regime of the UPA II Government. 18 other bills are pending from the earlier Lok Sabhas. The government has promulgated two ordinances in the last few months. These were the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance, 2014 and the Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance, 2014. Bills to replace both these ordinances will have to be brought in this Session of Parliament to ensure that they do not lapse. Nov 22, 2014

Bhopal, Nov 22 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan who have been living in India for the past several years demanded Indian nationality. The migrants met the district collector in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh and requested the officer to take the required initiative to hasten the process of providing them Indian nationality. The migrants said they face problems of religious identity in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan. Some of them were even forced to discontinue their business. A Pakistani Hindu migrant, Ajit Rajan said over 500 families of Hindu migrants have been living in Madhya Pradesh for years now. Authorities begin dredging drive in River Jhelum in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 22 (ANI): The irrigation and flood control department in Jammu and Kashmir started a dredging drive in River Jhelum, which overflowed in September and flooded the region, killing hundreds and marooning villages. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Roads in Srinagar, Kashmir's main city, were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. Hospitals were also flooded when the Jhelum River burst its banks and staff scattered around the city were unable to get to work. On Saturday chief engineer of irrigation and flood control department, Javed Jaffar, said that around 35000 cusecs of water also has to be discharged from the river during the dredging drive in order to widen and deepen it by desilting.
