16 Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh

Bastar, Nov 21 (ANI): Sixteen Maoists belonging to Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) surrendered in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. The 16 Maoists, including a woman, had a bounty of Rupees One Lakh on their heads. Inspector General (IG), Bastar, SRP Kalluri said that in the last five months there has been an increase in surrenders by the Maoists. During the ceremony, the Maoists were given monetary encouragement of Rupees 5,000. Kalluri also said that due to the increasing number of surrenders, the casualties had also come down. All the Maoists who surrendered alleged that they were subjected to exploitation and they lived under a constant threat. All of them agreed in unison that Maoism should be uprooted in Bastar. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar calls for peace in Iraq

Erbil, Nov 21 (ANI): Addressing a peace conference in Erbil city, Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called for peace in Iraq and said communication needs to be established with those who are misguided in the name of religion. Ravi Shankar on Wednesday stepped up relief work for Yazidi refugees trapped in Erbil town of northern Iraq, following an insurgency by Islamic State militants. The International Association for Human Values (IAHV), a sister concern of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's 'Art of Living,' has teamed up with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Iraq for relief operations. Ravi Shankar said those misguided by religion need to be educated. Ravi Shankar said India, too, had been under attack by aggressors but its faith in non-violence has remained intact. 'International Association for Human Values' and 'Art of Living' have been conducting trauma relief and women empowerment programmes in Iraq for the past 10 years. Nov 21, 2014

Oppositions accuse BJP of taking credit for Indian fishermen release, BJP declines

New Delhi, Nov 21 (ANI): BJP leaders declined seeking any credit for the release of Indian fishermen from Sri Lanka after leaders of Opposition Parties accused them of doing so. Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the party doesn't run after the credit and is happy that the fishermen have been released. New Delhi/Lucknow, Nov 21 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Friday after SP leader Azam Khan said that the income generated from the Taj Mahal should be handed over to Waqf Board since the monument is a mausoleum. Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Waqf Board should take care of their properties and Taj Mahal is the property of the country. BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh taking a dig over Azam Khan said that Khan has not been able to take care of his own buffaloes, he won't be able to take care of Taj Mahal either. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria slamming Azam Khan said that Khan has always been making controversial statements. HC says dastarbandi has no legal sanction, rules out stay on anointment of Jama Masjid's Shahi Imam

New Delhi, Nov 21(ANI): Delhi High court on Friday said that dastarbandi has no legal sanction whatsoever and ruled out any stay on anointment of Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid. The court ruled that dastarbandi is a private function and as the family is living there since much time, they don't need to be removed now. However, the petitioner in the case said that there is nothing called hereditary in Islam for the position of imam and a person like him, who has criminal cases going on, should not be allowed to continue. The decision of the court is of interim nature and the High Court will keep the case under consideration. The court also questioned why the Waqf board has not taken any action on the issue. Streets of Lucknow, Rampur and Moradabad were decorated for the celebrations. Khan has planned to get a towering "75-feet cake" and a horse-drawn buggy imported straight from London to celebrate the SP chief's birthday. Indian fishermen released from Sri Lanka return home, thank PM Modi

New Delhi/ Chennai, Nov 21 (ANI): The five Indian fishermen, who were on death row for charges of alleged drug trafficking, thanked the Modi government as they reached Chennai airport after Sri Lankan government freed them. The fishermen returned to Delhi airport on Thursday and thereafter left for Tamil Nadu. Sri Lanka on Wednesday had released the fishermen who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held them guilty of drug trafficking. The released fishermen - P Emerson, P Augustus, R Wilson, K Prasad and J Langlet - hail from Rameswaram coast of Tamil Nadu. R Wilson, another released fishermen, expressed gratitude towards the BJP government for securing their release and also thanked the Sri Lankan President for pardoning them. Nov 21, 2014
