Bitter cold continues as fresh snowfall blankets Kashmir

Poonch, Jan 10 (ANI): Residents continued to reel under intense cold weather condition as Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Thursday. As the snow blanketed the region, plowing machines were deployed to clear the snow from the roads. This is the third time, within a week, that snowfall has paralysed normal life in the region, leading to prolonged power cuts and blocking arterial highway. Frequent blocking of the National-Highway, which is the arterial road link that connects Kashmir with rest of the country, due to non-stop snowfall makes life tough as essential supplies do not reach the valley on time. In New Delhi, people were seen sitting around bonfires and drinking tea to brave the cold weather. The northern Himachal Pradesh is also in the grip of cold wave as snowfall in the upper regions forced people to stay indoors. In higher altitudes, the temperature has even dropped to the sub-zero level, with some states witnessing lowest minimum temperatures.
