Ink thrown on Subrata Roy outside SC

New Delhi, Mar 4 (ANI): Ink was thrown at Sahara chairman Subrata Roy on Tuesday as he arrived at the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The man suspected to have thrown ink on Subrata Roy has been detained. After being detained the man said that he threw the ink because Roy is a thief. Roy was driven down from Lucknow to Delhi last night in a Mercedes escorted by police cars. He reached the Supreme Court for his appearance in a contempt case arising out of non refund of Rs 20,000 crore to investors.

RJD trying its best to keep up alliance with Congress, offers 111 seats

New Delhi, March 04 (ANI): RJD leader Ram Kripal Yadav on Tuesday said that the party and Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is trying their bets to keep up the alliance with Congress and has also offered 11+1 seats for Congress in Bihar. Nirbhaya Helpline faces closure, Sheila Dikshit condemns

New Delhi, March 04 (ANI): The Delhi Government’s 181 helpline for women in distress, which was launched after the Nirbhaya assault case, is on the verge of closure. Contracts of employees who run the service have not been renewed since December and they have been working without pay for two months. Reacting over this, Congress leader and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that this will be a retrograde step. She added that she will write to Lieutenant governor about it.

DLF's high-rise plan near Rashtrapati Bhavan draws flak from politicos

New Delhi, March 04 (ANI): Real estate giant DLF's proposed high-rise residential project, barely a kilometre from Rashtrapati Bhavan, is on hold. The CBI will look into DLF's high-rise plan. The Urban Development Ministry approved DLF's high-rise residential project worth Rs 10,000 crore just one km from Rashtrapati Bhavan keeping aside the security concerns. Last November, the CBI registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) against officials of the urban development (UD) ministry for allegedly favouring DLF, giving it permission to construct the building. The PE was registered following a reference from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which received a complaint. Meanwhile, terming the plan as violation of laws, political leaders condemned it.

Police nab five Maoists in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Mar 4 (ANI): Police have arrested five Maoists and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions after a joint combing operation with paramilitary force in Jharkhand. Deputy Auxiliary Police (DAP) launched a joint operation at the rebel hideout in Ranchi district. The Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar, said that the rebels belonged to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers. However, thousands have been killed in the insurgency since the late 1960s. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the Maoist rebellion as one of the gravest security threats to India.

Sex workers in Kolkata rally for equal rights, social status

Kolkata, Mar 4 (ANI): Sex workers in Kolkata recently took out a rally, pressing their demands of security and social status for their community. More than 1500 workers marched on the streets of Kolkata on international sex workers day (March 03). Members of largest sex workers organization, Durbar, were holding placards and raising slogans for their equal rights and status in the society. These sex workers from one of India's biggest red light lane, Sonagachi in Kolkata, demanded the legalization of the world's oldest profession. Dey also said that the day, which was started after efforts and labour put in by the sex workers of Sonagachi, is now celebrated worldwide.

TRS not to merge with Congress

Hyderabad, Mar 4 (ANI): Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) Chief K Chandrashekar Rao, has denied merger with Congress party. Congress leader Digvijay Singh had earlier hinted that the TRS will merge with the Congress. He had said that the consultation process between the two parties was over. However, ending days of speculation and dashing the hopes of Congress, the TRS ruled out any merger with the Congress. K Chandrashekar Rao had joined hands with TDP against Congress for the 2009 elections. But his party had suffered a serious setback and won only two Lok Sabha seats and 10 Assembly seats in the region.
