President gives away Padma Awards to distinguished recipients

New Delhi, April 26 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday conferred the Padma Awards on 56 prominent personalities at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The awardees included one Padma Vibhushan, eleven Padma Bhushan and forty-four Padma Shri. Renowned yoga practitioner B K S Iyengar was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan. Padma Bhushan recipients included tennis star Leander Paes and renowned author Ruskin Bond. Cricketer Anjum Chopra, Actor Paresh Rawal and Delhi University Vice Chancellor Professor Dinesh Singh were some of the recipients of the Padma Shri award.

Did not intend to insult Dalits, my 'honeymoon' comment misinterpreted: Ramdev

Vadodara, Apr 26 (ANI): Clarifying his earlier remark that Rahul Gandhi goes to Dalit's houses for picnic and honeymoon, Yoga Guru Ramdev on Saturday said that people have taken what he said about Rahul in a wrong way. He also said that he did not meant to insult Rahul or Dalits. He also added that if his statement hurted the dalits, he regrets it.

FIR against Ramdev for his 'honeymoon' comment on Rahul

Lucknow/ New Delhi, April 26 (ANI): An FIR has been lodged against yoga guru Ramdev by the Uttar Pradesh police, for his comment against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi that he goes to houses of Dalits for "picnics and honeymoon". The controversial remark by Ramdev, who is supporting the BJP this elections, drew flak from various quarters. CPI leader D Raja lambasted Ramdev for insulting the Dalit community and especially the women and said that his remark refers to women as 'commodities, which are purchasable'. Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has hit back at the Congress party after it demanded a public apology from Ramdev for insulting dalits. Ramdev an avid supporter of BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi has been touring India to garner votes for BJP after the party accepted his proposal to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks.

Amritsar, April 26 (ANI): Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday lashed back at BJP leader Arun Jaitley wherein Jaitley alleged that Singh had been ‘untruthful’ in the matter of property tax.
