New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): Iraqi Ambassador to India Ahmed Tahseen Ahmed Berwari on Saturday said that the Iraqi government is working closely with the Indian government to rescue abducted Indians in Iraq. Berwari said that the government has advised Indians in safe cities not to step out of their homes for security purposes.

Health minister to draw outline against Encephalitis

Patna, June 21 (ANI): Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, will hold a meeting with experts to draw outline against Japanese Encephalitis in affected states of the country. Experts from US based Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences along with Vardhan in Patna on Saturday. The mosquito-borne disease can cause fever, convulsions and coma and is more likely to kill children than adults.

People criticise hike in rail fares ahead of new budget.

Mumbai /New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): Commuters, on Saturday , criticised new government after it pushed through a steep hike in rail passenger and freight fares, the first dose of the "bitter medicine" Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warned, is needed to revive the economy. From June 25, rail passenger fares will increase by 14.2 percent and freight rates by 6.5 percent. Daily passengers said this will burn a hole in pockets of people belonging to middle and lower classes. People said they had high hopes from Modi as he had promised to contain inflation. However, after fare hike, they say common man has been ignored.

Indian worker returns safely from Iraq

Navsari, June 21(ANI): An Indian labourer who was working in Iraq safely returned to his home town Navsari in Gujarat. Patel said he was unable to contact his stranded friends in Iraq due to no connectivity. Militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), along with other Sunni rebels, are reported to have abducted dozens of foreigners including Indian nationals as they swept through towns in the Tigris valley north of Baghdad in recent days.

Congress worker's house attacked by unidentified gunmen in JandK

Sopore, June 21 (ANI): Unidentified gunmen barged inside the house of Congress party activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo in Baramulla district of Kashmir and opened heavy fire upon their family members. In the firing that started around 9:05 pm Friday night, two persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, son of Khazir Mohammad and his cousin Shabir Ahmad, suffered critical injuries, and the duo were immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital, where Nazir succumbed to injuries. The joint team of these two forces cordoned off the whole area and launched a search to nab the assailants.

Congress retorts as BJP says rail fare hike was Congress' decision

Campa Cola Society's residents refuse to budge, to continue silent protest against eviction

Mumbai, June 21 (ANI): Residents of unauthorised Campa Cola Housing Society in Mumbai refused to budge on Saturday saying they would continue their silent protest against demolition drive. Residents protested against Mumbai's civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), who had arrived at gates of the society for eviction. Distraught residents refused to vacate their homes and were willing to go to jail to prevent the BMC from razing down their houses. Seven high-rises were constructed at the Campa Cola Compound between 1981 and 1989. The builders had permission for only six floors, but constructed several more.

Congress protests over railway fare hike against NDA govt

New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): Congress workers in Delhi staged protest on Saturday under DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely over the hike in railway fare by 14.2 per cent and the subsequent hikes in other articles as a result of the same. The protesters shouted anti-BJP slogans and carried placards demanding to take back the hike. Lovely termed the fare hike the biggest in history and also mocked BJP’s 'good days are to come' slogan. Police also used water cannons to control the crowd. Meanwhile, CPI (M) workers also staged a protest against the hike in railway passenger and freight fare in the national capital.

DERC hints at revision of power tariff, congress reacts

New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has hinted that it will revise electricity tariff in the city, which is still grappling with unprecedented power outages. DERC said that the electricity tariff could be increased in the city due to increase in the coal prices, which in turn had increased the cost of electricity production. Due to persistent pressure by the power distribution companies on the power regulator to increase the tariff, the hike could affect people across all the slabs.
