Situation returns to normal in violence-hit Bodo areas of Assam

Assam, May 17 (ANI): The death toll in the mayhem unleashed by militants in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) has reached 36. The curfew, which was imposed on May 2, has been relaxed in Baksa, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts as no fresh violence was reported. The Assam government blamed Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for killing 36 people, all migrant Muslims. The Centre has sent a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the matter and has deployed additional forces to maintain peace and calm. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi visited the violence-hit Kokrajhar district and assured justice to the victims.

Manmohan Singh resigns as Prime Minister of India

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday, a day after the BJP routed the Congress in the Lok Sabha election. Earlier in the day, Dr Singh addressed the nation for the last time before submitting his resignation. Manmohan Singh was the prime minister at the head of a Congress-led government since 2004.

Nawaz Sharif invites Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan

Lahore, May 17 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned Narendra Modi whose party BJP has swept India’s general elections. The media coordinator for Sharif's ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) party, Tariq Azeem said that Sharif had congratulated Modi and had invited him to visit Pakistan. There have been concerns in Pakistan over Modi's victory because of his hard-line stance towards the nation, especially during his election campaign. Narendra Modi to attend 'Ganga Aarti' in Varanasi today

Varanasi, May 17 (ANI): A day after the declaration of Lok Sabha election results, BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will on Saturday visit Varanasi to thank people for their support. Narendra Modi to take part in road show in Delhi on his arrival

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): After securing a handsome 337 majority win for the BJP-led NDA in the 2014 general elections, Narendra Modi will arrive in Delhi on Saturday morning to take part in a road show which will be more of a victory procession by him. Following which, he will attend a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board at the party headquarters in Lutyen's Delhi. The BJP has decided to use his journey from the Indira gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to the BJP headquarters as a victory procession. The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory asking commuters to avoid certain roads that fall on or around the route that the Modi roadshow will take and security has been tightened ahead of his arrival in the national capital.
