Fourteen killed, 20 injured as bus overturns in Jharkhand

Godda, May 18 (ANI): At least 14 people were killed while 20 others injured in a fatal road accident as bus overturned in Godda district of Jharkhand. According to police the bus was returning from a marriage party when the driver, who was drunk, lost control and the vehicle overturned. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in the district, where seven of them were reported to be critical. Twelve were found dead on the spot and later, two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Police said investigations were under way and elaborated on the details. The driver is still absconding. Road accidents are common in India, where roads are often of poor quality. May 18, 2014

Fatal collision of four vehicles kills 10 in Gujarat, several injured

Bharuch, May 18 (ANI): Fatal collision of four vehicles – a truck, tanker, bus and a jeep killed 10 people and left several others injured, on the National Highway near Panoli village in Bharuch district of Gujarat. According to police 10 people, which also include the driver of the jeep, were declared dead, while several others in the bus were said to be injured. The injured have been admitted in a nearby hospital. A police probe is underway and further details are awaited. May 18, 2014

Modi says Varanasi endorsed even his 'silence'

Varanasi, May 18 (ANI): In spiritually charged atmosphere of the temple town of Varanasi, victorious BJP leader Narendra Modi said that he was indebted to people of the town for their love and support even when he was gagged and not allowed to speak to his electorate in the run up to polls. Modi reached the brightly-lit Dashashwamedh Ghat soon after darkness fell. Jostling his way through the enthusiastic crowd of supporters cheering 'NaMo NaMo', the leader reached the banks of Holy Ganges with party chief Rajnath Singh and his aide Amit Shah to participate in the famous Ganga Aarti, the Hindu ceremony of light. After performing all the rituals amidst priests blowing conch shells and ringing holy bells, the firebrand leader addressed the crowd and thanked them for their support. A budding player from Imphal West district in Manipur, Meiraba recently won two international and one national championship in Badminton. Born to Meisnam Ramesh Luwang and Ratna Devi, Meiraba is the only international badminton player from Manipur. He is currently studying in class VIII. In the recently held "AROS CUP Youth International Badminton Tournament" 2014 in Denmark, Meiraba bagged championship medals in both Single and Double events. New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Politicos react over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation from his post on moral grounds after perceiving General Election results in which JD (U) performed badly.
