Muslims prepare for Eid amid rising prices

Varanasi, July 25 (ANI): Indian Muslims in Uttar Pradesh thronged various markets ahead of Eid-al-fitr amid rising prices. Eid marks the end of holy month of Ramadan. Despite crowd in markets, shopkeepers said the business was slow as prices of several commodities had shot up. Inflation and spiraling prices of commodities remained a matter of concern for many Muslims heading to markets for shopping. Eid is a time for visiting friends and family and receiving guests. It is customary for Muslims to buy new clothes and accessories for the festive occasion.

Mumbai doctors remove 232 teeth from teen_s mouth

Mumbai, July 25 (ANI): Doctors at a Mumbai hospital have removed an astonishing 232 teeth from the mouth of a 17-year-old Indian boy. Hailing from a small village with lack of good healthcare facilities, Ashique Gavai_s family decided to visit a good hospital in the city when their son complained of swelling and pain in his right side of the mouth. The problem of swelling had been persistent for over a year. The doctors admitted Gavai for a surgery on July 22 and during the six-hour-long operation, they were shocked to see innumerous mustard seed-to-rock-sized teeth bulging out of a cyst- like formation. They even discovered a rock-like formation in the affected tooth. The case, which was dubbed as benign tumour of the tooth by doctors, might just lead the teenager to the pathway of making a record.

Wipro posts fiscal Q1 profit up 29.6 percent

Bangalore, July 25 (ANI): India_s third-biggest IT services exporter, Wipro Limited posted fiscal first-quarter profit up 29.6 percent and forecast a surge in revenue on the back of stronger spending on outsourcing by overseas clients. IT services revenue in Wipro_s fiscal first quarter that ended on June 30 rose 1.2 percent from the previous quarter to $1.7 billion, as it added 35 new clients. Consolidated net profit for the quarter grew 29.6 percent from a year earlier to 21.03 billion rupees, slightly below consensus estimates of 21.24 billion rupees. Total revenue rose 14 percent from a year earlier to 111.4 billion rupees.

Congress hits out at Modi govt over secretary-level talks with Pakistan

New Delhi, July 25 (ANI): Congress slammed the ruling BJP government over foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan scheduled for next month. The decision to re-start secretary-level talks was taken during Prime Minister Narendra Modi_s meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif when the latter attended Modi_s swearing-in ceremony in May. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the foreign secretaries will meet on August 25 in Islamabad. However, Congress leader Manish Tewari questioned U-turn of Modi government as it has always advocated for tough stance on Pakistan. Meanwhile, PDP leader Tariq Ahmad Karra, welcomed Indo-Pak dialogue.

Bangalore_s Vibgyor High School to reopen from next Monday

Bangalore, July 25 (ANI): Officials confirmed that classes in Bangalore_s Vibgyor High School that was shut down after the rape of a six-year-old girl student within the premises, will commence by next Monday. Bangalore south Block Education Officer, Ramesh, announced the schedule for the commencement of classes. The school authorities reaffirmed strict measures for students_ safety after the sexual assault on the campus. The child, a student of first grade at the school, is now under treatment in a hospital. Around 260 parents attended the meeting that was held in the school premises. A parent, Chandrima Dutta, said that the authorities gave a positive response to the agendas put forward by the parents.

Infiltration could increase before JandK polls: JN Choudhury

New Delhi, July 25 (ANI): National Security Guard (NSG) Chief JN Choudhury said that Pakistan-based militant outfits could mount 2008 Mumbai like attacks on the country. Choudhury said objective of militants was to thwart India_s economic growth. The violence, which India blames on the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, temporarily ruptured a fragile peace process between the two countries. The NSG added the attack would have huge impact on the nation. Choudhury also warned that infiltration across the border would increase due to upcoming polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

India and Pak Foreign Secretaries to meet on August 25 to revive dialogue

Islamabad, July 25 (ANI): The foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan will meet on August 25 to re-launch the stalled dialogue process between the two countries. Addressing a media briefing in Islamabad, Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, said that in keeping with the vision of the two prime ministers to improve and establish good neighbourly relations, both sides had agreed on the meeting date during a telephonic conversation between the foreign secretaries of the two countries. The development is being seen as a major breakthrough in the backdrop of hostilities that recently cropped up following skirmishes on the Line of Control. He said the mechanism of Director Generals Military Operations (DGMOs) talking to each other every Tuesday was working well and Pakistan was open to ideas and suggestions to strengthen this mechanism and to increase its effectiveness.

Pineapple cultivation has great potential in Manipur

Manipur, July 25 (ANI): Pineapples from Manipur are well known for its distinct taste. And small farmers like Indrajit Singh have tapped the potential. He has been growing the fruit in one acre of his land at Ngariyan Hills in Imphal East. He earns Rs. 70,000 every season. In a move to motivate more farmers to grow pineapple, the Andro Kendra Development Organization organizes a week-long Pineapple festival every year. This year, it has invited horticulture experts to interact with local farmers and provide them technical knowledge to cultivate and market the fruit. Andro town has some 400 small and medium pineapple farmers.

Oinam Bembem Devi The star of Indian women football

Manipur, July 25 (ANI): At the tender age of 10 when Oinam Bembem Devi first started playing football, she couldn_t have imagined herself playing internationals in a few years_ time. When she turned 15 in 1995, Bembem Devi made her international debut for India. It was the start of the greatest career in Indian women_s football. The 36-year-old, who hails from Pishumthong Leishangthem Leikai, is the captain of Manipur women_s football team. She represented the Indian women_s team thrice in 2003, 2010 and 2012 as the captain and aspires to be a coach after retirement. Bembem Devi is the first woman from Manipur to have bagged the title of _Best Footballer_ twice.
