Japanese firms expanding base in ASEAN

Cambodia, July 15 (ANI): Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, witnesses a major economic growth, but here exists only a few commercial establishments. International giants like Japan's Aeon Group are foraying into the Cambodian market and it opened its first shopping mall. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida were among the dignitaries present at the event. The Cambodian Prime Minister calls it a major investment by AEON, which shows the economic growth of Cambodia. He hopes for more advancement of Japanese investment in the country.

Modi govt urges UPSC to postpone Civil Services preliminary exams

New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): Days after civil service aspirants protested against the new concepts introduced in the syllabus, the Indian government agreed to resolve issues faced by them on Tuesday. Civil services aspirants demanding scrapping of C-SAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) and age relaxation for 2011 candidates demonstrated outside the residence of Home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday. They also met Singh and stressed that their demands should be met. On Tuesday, junior minister for Science and Technology in the BJP government, Jitendra Singh, assured fast action.

Israeli attacks on Gaza spark protests in India

New Delhi/Srinagar, July 15 (ANI): Indians took to streets on Tuesday as they protested Israeli air strikes in Gaza that have killed at least 160 Palestinians. The current Israeli offensive, which began last week, has claimed lives of at least 138 civilians, including 30 children. Thousands were forced to flee in a Gaza town on Sunday after Israel warned them to leave ahead of threatened attacks on rocket-launching sites.

Rajya Sabha passes TRAI Amendment Bill

New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): After Lok Sabha, the TRAI Amendment Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha today. The bill was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday. The Bill seeks to remove a legal hurdle in appointment of former chairman of telecom regulatory body Nripendra Misra as principal secretary to the Prime Minister. While the Congress opposed the bill, other parties like the BSP and the TMC supported it. Though the NDA government lacked numbers, it had expressed confidence on Monday that the Bill would be cleared by the Upper House too.

Passengers jubilant as Delhi-Katra 'Shri Shakti Express' returns to New Delhi after maiden journey

Katra, July 15 (ANI): The Delhi-Katra 'Shri Shakti Express' on Tuesday arrived at the New Delhi Railway Station after its maiden journey. The 'Shree Shakti Express' rail link to Katra that is at the foot of the popular Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, has eased travel for the devotees. Prime Minister Modi had flagged-off the inaugural train from Katra to Udhampur on July 04. Expressing happiness passengers said the train service was a great relief to the pilgrims heading towards the pilgrimage. According to the official data, nearly 10 million devotees pass through Katra every year on their way to the 13-kilometer-long holy trek. Katra, being the starting point of the trek to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, is a highly revered destination for Hindus. This rail link is expected to make the journey easier for millions of devotees who make the pilgrimage every year.
