Haryana Assembly polls: BJP, INLD workers clash in Sirsa

Sirsa, Oct 15 (ANI): As Haryana went to polls on Wednesday, clashes and firing were reported between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Lok Dal supporters in Sirsa. The incident took place in the Modiakhera village in Sirsa. According to reports, two people have been injured in the violence and have been taken to a hospital for treatment. Earlier, Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) chief Gopal Kanda's car was attacked at Gaushala Mohalla in Sirsa town on Wednesday.

Maharashtra polls: Raj, Uddhav, Nitin show confidence, cast their votes

Mumbai/ Nagpur, Oct 15 (ANI): Estranged cousins MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray cast their votes on Wednesday in Mumbai. Uddhav was accompanied by wife Rashmi and son Aditya. Talking to mediapersons, Uddhav said that he is sure the turnout will increase and people of Maharashtra will vote for the leaders they trust. MNS president Raj Thackeray also cast his vote at Shivaji Park which falls in the Mumbai South Central seat where his party's Aditya Shirodkar is pitted against Shiv Sena's Rahul Shewale and Congress's Eknath Gaikwad, seeking a third term. Meanwhile, BJP leader NItin Gadkari also cast his vote in Nagpur.

President Pranab Mukherjee arrives in Finland

Finland, Oct 15 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Finland on a two-day official visit after completing his visit to Norway. He was received by Secretary of State Peter Stenlund at the airport in Helsinki. Mukherjee is accompanied by a high level delegation to Finland where he is expected to meet Finnish president, prime minister, foreign minister and the speaker. He will address a Business Seminar in Helsinki and attend an official lunch hosted by its Mayor. He will also visit 'Arktikum' museum, Arctic Science Centre, Rovaniemi and cross the Arctic Circle. Mukherjee is to return to India on October 17.

IAF fighter jet crashes into hamlet near Pune during training session

Pune, Oct 15 (ANI): An Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed at Wagholi village, 20 kilometres from Pune city airfield in Maharashtra, during a training session. The Sukhoi-30MK1 jet, which is one of the main aircrafts in the Indian Air Force, was introduced in the Air Force fleet in 1997 and has been considered safe. Both pilots ejected safely and no loss or injury to life has been reported. Locals heard a loud noise and saw the plane fall out of the sky. Police and Air Force teams rushed to the spot after they were informed of the crash. India has 200 Sukhois in its fleet and 70 more jets have been ordered from the Russian manufacturer. But many jets have been reported to have made emergency landings due to malfunctioning.

Mumbai, Oct 15 (ANI): The polling booth became a visual treat for the voters on Wednesday as Bollywood Actor Abhishek Bachchan, his mother Jaya, the glamourous Rekha and also Bhagyashree turned up to cast their vote in Mumbai. Abhishek Bachchan appealed the people to vote in large numbers. Veteran actress Jaya Bacchan also accompanied her son, Abhishek, to cast her franchise. The people outside polling station also witnessed the glamourous Rekha as she showed her inked finger to the camera. Traditional Buffalo fight thrills scores of spectators in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Oct 15 (ANI): Scores of spectators thronged to witness the thrilling one-day buffalo fighting festival organised as part of local tradition and religious belief in Himachal Pradesh. The buffalo fight organised in Poabo village nearly 10 kilometers from Shimla saw villagers coming from more than 15 villages who brought their buffalos to participate in the match. The century-old buffalo fight is performed annually and involves the specially reared animals being brought to the ring, following which they are provoked for the duel. Organiser Rameshwar Thakur believed that it is a rich heritage which they want to preserve for future generations. The tradition is also to pacify the god Saturn and villagers believe that an opportunity to watch and participate in this fighting is a way to please Saturn which would bring happiness and prosperity.

Sachin Tendulkar unveils logo of 'Legends of Rupganj' in Bangaldesh

Dhaka, Oct 15 (ANI): India's cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar unveiled the logo of Dhaka Premier League cricket club 'Legends of Rupganj' in Bangaldesh. The batting maestro, who arrived on a one-day visit to the country, unveilied the logo at a hotel in Dhaka. After unveiling the logo, Tendulkar thanked the people of Bangladesh for the love and respect. The last time Tendulkar was in Dhaka, he scored his 100th international century during the Asia Cup in 2012. Upon arriving in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, he was taken by a helicopter to Rupganj, a sub-district of Narayanganj. There Tendulkar attended a health awareness programme organised by UNICEF at a local high school.
