Women's rights activists condemn AMU VC's 'girls will attract boys in University library' statement

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Women's rights activists on Tuesday condemned Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah's statement wherein he said that there would be 'four times more boys' in the library if girls were allowed in and that the space does not allow the same. Justifying as to why girls were not allowed library membership, the VC said, “the issue is not of discipline, but of space. Our library is packed". DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said that this is the mentality of the University to dominate women. AIDWA General Secretary Jagmati Sangwan demanded that the President should take action over the matter. Meanwhile, NCW Member Shamina Shafiq said that such a statement is not expected from VC of a central university and that space problem should be tackled in a better and positive way. Nov 11, 2014

PM Modi to visit Australia this week for G-20 summit

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Australia from November 16-18 for G-20 summit later this week, said foreign ministry official. India wants to keep a so-called 'peace clause' that protects its huge state food purchases until the World Trade Organization can strike a definitive deal on stockpiling. As originally envisaged in Bali, the clause would expire in four years. India’s foreign ministry official Anil Wadhwa said Modi`s visit to Australia would improve and strengthen relations between the two countries. India would also discuss contours of an agreement between US, Japan, India and Australia to check Chinese influence in the region. The Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott, and will address the Parliament in Canberra. He will have political-business community meetings in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The Prime Minister will also participate in the G-20 Summit in Australia, following which he shall travel to Fiji after a gap of 33 years. Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka got copy of verdict against fishermen: MEA

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka obtained a copy of the judgment that gave death sentence to five fishermen, said foreign ministry spokesperson in New Delhi. The court has convicted five Indian fishermen on the charge of drug trafficking. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the embassy had approached best legal brains in Sri Lanka to appeal against the verdict. However, Akbaruddin refused to comment on the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s statement over the transfer of five fishermen to an Indian jail under a bilateral agreement. Earlier on Monday, Swamy had said the deadlock was broken after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the issue. Nov 11, 2014

The two suspects, hailing from Bhopal city in Madhya Pradesh, were nabbed by police in a hotel near cantonment area of a border village in Firozpur district of Punjab. According to Superintendent of Police, Firozpur, Vibhor Kumar, the youths were in constant touch with a woman in Pakistan through Facebook and whatsApp and had also received money through MoneyGram transfer from her.
