Haryana govt distributes blankets as cold wave tightens grip

New Delhi/ Amritsar, Dec 24 (ANI): Government in Haryana distributed blankets to poor people living on road on Wednesday as cold wave tightened its grip, forcing people to sit around bonfires and staying indoors. As per local media reports, minimum temperature recorded in Haryana was 2.5 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh city recorded 5.8 degrees Celsius. Yadav also requested people to distribute their warm clothes to needy. Meanwhile, people in New Delhi also shivered under cold weather condition. The minimum temperature recorded was six degrees coupled with dense fog. In Amritsar city, dense fog disrupted normal life as it reduced visibility. The results for Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand assembly polls came out on Tuesday with the PDP emerging as the single-largest party in Jammu and Kashmir and the BJP with its ally the AJSU getting simple majority in Jharkhand. New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday said that the government has decided to confer Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malaviya. The Centre's announcement on Bharat Ratna awards comes a day ahead of the veteran BJP leader's birthday, which falls on December 25. West Bengal bakery makes Christmas cakes to honour Peshawar School Attack victims

Siliguri, Dec 24 (ANI): A bakery in Siliguri city of West Bengal baked innovative cakes ahead of Christmas to commemorate the victims of Peshawar school attack that left at least 141 people dead, most of them children. The Peshawar attack-themed cakes are covered in white icing and have a gun with a dove - a symbol of peace- on top. The bakery owner felt he had a responsibility to spread the message of peace, as a reminder to people to not to forget the horrific incident during the Christmas festivities. At least 132 students and nine staff members were killed earlier this month, when Taliban gunmen broke into a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar and opened fire, leaving the world reeling in terror. The bakery also has on sale Christmas cakes commemorating the untimely death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, who died last month after being struck by a ball that led to a "catastrophic" injury causing "massive" bleeding to his brain. Chennai, Dec 24 (ANI): MDMK took to streets in Tamil Nadu to demand central government to declassify files related to the disappearance of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. MDMK led by party Chief Vaiko and another regional party Trinamool Congress (TMC) held a joint protest saying the inquiry report on the leader's death must be made public. Reportedly, there are several files which have been categorised as Secret and Classified relating to issues like acquisition of Jankinath Bhavan (now leaders birth place museum) by the then government of Odisha, the appointment of inquiry committee to review the circumstances of Boses death and his mortal remains kept in Rankoji temple in Japan.
