Opposition takes dig at Maharashtra govt over Adarsh scam report

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Jan 03 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a jibe at the Maharashtra government for "partially" accepting the Adarsh housing scam report and for not taking action against involved lawmakers. After intervention of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, the provincial government of Maharashtra had accepted the report. However, it refused any action on lawmakers as no criminality was revealed. The President of BJP unit in the state, Devendra Fadnavis, said that they would challenge the decision in the High Court and ensure the involved lawmakers were brought to book. Jan 3, 2014

West Bengal condemns inaction over Kolkata gang rape case

Kolkata/ New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): The women wing of CPI (M) staged protests in New Delhi demanding action on double gang-rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Kolkata. Members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), shouted slogans against provincial government of West Bengal and chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The girl was allegedly gang-raped twice in October and after two months of torment she was murdered, which is confirmed by the police. AIDWA Chief Brinda Karat blamed the West Bengal government for negligence and inaction in the matter. Jan 3, 2014

New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that the Cabinet had approved the proposal of sending a presidential reference to remove former justice AK Ganguly from the post of chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission. Ganguly is accused of sexually harassing a 22-year-old law intern, with a new damaging charge emerging that he had accepted the hospitality of a Pakistani national without permission. While addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Chidambaram said that the union cabinet had granted the proposal of the Interior Ministry to send a reference for inquiry into the allegations against the retired Supreme Court judge. Bangalore, Jan 03 (ANI): Former chief minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa rejoined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and would merge his regional Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) ahead of 2014 general elections. This came a year after Yeddyurappa walked out of the party alleging betrayal. Yeddyurappa, a strongman from the majority Lingayat community, said formalities would be completed within three to four days.
