Arunachal student death: Students to hold protest

New Delhi, Feb 01 (ANI): A day after the shocking death of a 19-year-old son of an Arunachal Pradesh Congress legislator after being beaten up mercilessly in an alleged racial attack at a busy marketplace in NewDelhi, a delegation headed by Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi will on Saturday meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discuss the incident. Angry students from the northeast have also threatened to hold a protest march. The boy, Nido Taniam, had reportedly gone to Lajpat Nagar on January 29 in search of an address, and was allegedly mocked by someone at a shop for his hair. Students from northeastern states condemned the racial attack. Congress leader Ninong Ering, who represents the Arunachal East constituency in Arunachal Pradesh also condemned the incident and said it sends a wrong message to the people of northeast. Feb 1, 2014

Tripura, Feb 01 (ANI): Thousands thronged the Vivekananda Maidan stadium in to witness the 59th National School Football championship. The event was formally inaugurated by Tripura's chief minister Manik Sarkar. All together 30 teams participated in the tournament.It was organized by the School Games Federation of India in collaboration with the Tripura government. During the event, students from different schools presented spectacular cultural programmes. The tournament provided an opportunity to players from different states to share a common platform and strengthen the bonds of National Integration. The championship commenced with the inaugural match between Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Punjab defeated Madhya Pradesh 1-0. New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): India on Wednesday marked the end Republic Day celebrations with the colourful 'Beating Retreat' ceremony that took place on Vijay Chowk road square in New Delhi, near President's estate. Hundreds of spectators were present to witness military bands playing. The event saw the attendance of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Arackaparambil Kurien Antony, Delhi's newly appointed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.The President's arrival was followed by performances by the 14 Trumpeters, 32 Buglers and 14 Echo Buglers, placed strategically along the building of the entire administrative block. As the military bands played India's national anthem, 'Jana Gana Mana', the political leaders and the spectators stood up in order to honour the country. The Indian national flag was lowered to the solemn accompaniment of the military band. The ceremony is held at Vijay Chowk on January 29 every year and marks the culmination of the four-day-long Republic Day celebrations. The Beating Retreat has its origins in the retreat of the armed forces after a day at the battlefront. India became a republic on January 26, 1950, and celebrates the day with military parades, pomp and ceremony in all major cities. Jan 31, 2014
