CPI (M) drained coffers of WB govt: Mamata Banerjee

Raniganj, April 05 (ANI): In a bid to garner votes ahead of general elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Mamata Banerjee, used 'star appeal' as Bollywood Actor Mithun Chakraborty, shared stage with her during a massive rally in Raniganj city of West Bengal. Chakraborty, who was recently elected as TMC leader to the upper house of the parliament, added spark to the rally. Taking a dig at CPI (M), Banerjee said the communist party drained coffers of the state government. Banerjee also accused the central government for not granting funds under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme, which ensures 100 days work for the unemployed rural people. The regional leader is all set to contest the upcoming elections and hopes for her win without any alliance either with Congress or with the BJP.

India to launch more satellites to set up regional navigational systems

Sriharikota, April 05 (ANI): After successful launch of satellite from south-eastern coast in Bay of Bengal to boost navigational capabilities, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, K Radhakrishnan, said that two more such satellites will be launched. Addressing a news conference at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, Radhakrishnan said the launch will depend on weather conditions. He also said that three more navigational satellites would be launched in early 2015 and India would have all navigational satellite systems.

Btown celebrities attend special screening of Yellow

Mumbai, April 4 (ANI): Bollywood stars attended the special screening of regional film 'Yellow', a story of a girl suffering from Down syndrome, in India's showbiz capital Mumbai on Thursday. Many celebrities including Madhur Bhandarkar, Satish Shah, Karishma Tanna, Shreyas Talpade, and designer Nishika Lulla along with the cast and crew of the film were present during the screening. Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh has produced the Marathi film which is based on the story of a girl suffering from Down syndrome and how she fights all odds to live her dream of becoming a swimmer. The film fraternity has come out in full support of the film for raising a special issue and those present at the screening asked the audience to watch the film as it is both inspiring and motivating. The film is scheduled to release on 4th April 2014.

Market booms for cap makers in UP ahead of LS Polls

Amroha, April 04 (ANI): The demand for caps bearing symbols of leading political parties has picked-up ahead of Lok Sabha Polls as politicians are distributing the poll merchandise to supporters during campaigning. With polls just round the corner, the cap industry in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a boom. Caps of leading political parties - red-coloured caps of Samajwadi Party (SP), blue caps of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) and white and saffron caps of Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) respectively - with party’s election symbol are being manufactured to cash in the popularity of leaders and parties. There are some people who have been involved in this business for generations.

LS Polls: Mayawati urges Muslims to vote for BSP

Muzaffarnagar, April 04 (ANI): BSP Chief Mayawati, on Friday urged Muslims to vote en-masse for the party candidates during parliamentary polls to defeat main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh. The BSP chief urged them not to get swayed by promises of Congress party or Samajwadi Party (SP). She also alleged that Samajwadi Party’s government in Uttar Pradesh had hatched a strategy to further stoke up 2013 communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, if she had visited the place. Shakti Mill gangrape case: 3 convicts get death for repeated offence, life term for one

Mumbai, April 04 (ANI): A Mumbai sessions court on Friday awarded death sentence to three convicts in the Shakti Mills photojournalist gangrape case. The court also awarded a life term for the fourth convict in the case. The court awarded the death penalty to Vijay Jadhav, Salim Ansari and Qasim Bengali for being the repeat offenders. The trio are the first to be sentenced to death under Section 376-E.

Sushma Swaraj & Uma Bharti file nominations from Vidisha & Jhansi respectively
