Sushma Swaraj flags off Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): Foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj, on Wednesday flagged off the annual Hindu pilgrimage, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, to the holy Lake Mansarovar in Tibet, the water of which is believed to cleanse all sins according to Hindus. Mansarovar Lake and the flanking Mount Kailash, which is the highest mountain in Tibet at 22,022 feet, are revered by Hindus as the abode of their god Shiva. Annually, pilgrims come from all over the subcontinent to take ceremonial baths in the lake water. The pilgrimage-route is considered prone to earthquakes and landslides.

Arun Jaitley says Lt Gen Suhag's appointment as Army Chief is final

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday announced Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag's appointment as next Army Chief to be final. His statement came when senior Congress leader Anand Sharma raised the issue of tweet messages against Army Chief-designate Suhag by Gen (Retd) VK Singh. Jaitley said in Rajya Sabha that the previous UPA government had made the appointment few weeks ago and it is a practice that some issues should be kept outside the "realm of inter-party politics". He said the matter should not be raised directly or indirectly.

Greenpeace Foundation rejects Intelligence Bureau's allegations

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): The Greenpeace Foundation on Wednesday refuted allegations of negatively impacting the economic growth of the country, leveled by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in its report submitted to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Officials carry out rescue operation, recover bodies of two Russian tourists killed in bus crash

Uttarkashi, June 11 (ANI): Indian police and army officials continued to carry out rescue operation for the injured victims and recovered bodies of the Russian tourists who were killed after a minibus they were travelling on plunged into a river in a Himalayan valley on Monday. The incident killed two Russian tourists and injured eleven others when the bus carrying 13 people tumbled into the Bhagirathi river of Uttarakhand after careening off the mountain road.
