Soldiers guarding Indian border exchange sweets to mark 68th Independence Day

Punjab/Siliguri, Aug 15 (ANI): Border guards of India and Pakistan on Friday exchanged sweets at the Attari-Wagah joint check post between both the countries on the occasion of India’s 68th Independence Day on Friday. Inspector general, Border Security Force (BSF) Border Range, Ashok Kumar, wished the country on the occasion of Independence Day. People on India’s side waved Indian flags near the border gates as military bands played. The sweets exchange signifies promoting cordial relations between security forces of neighbouring countries.

Students dressed as JL Nehru take out march to celebrate I Day

Coimbatore, Aug 15 (ANI): As many as 1400 school students dressed as India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru celebrated nation’s 68th Independence Day by marching across the Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The students were dressed in Nehru’s signature attire - white Indian formal suit, a cap and red rose pinned to their coats and they took out a silent march for three kilometers. During the march, students said they aim to set a new record for Limca Book of Records - the record book of Indian origin.

Congress submits report to Sonia Gandhi on poll debacle

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): The AK Antony panel of Congress party submitted review report of its poll debacle to party chief, Sonia Gandhi, following its defeat in the general elections. The much talked about report was submitted on Thursday by former defence minister, A K Antony and his team after a meeting with 500 Congress members, including members of its various wings. Sonia Gandhi and her son, Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi were widely held responsible for the defeat. However, Antony refused to hold the Gandhis accountable for the loss. Quipping at Congress’ remark of emerging strong again, BJP said that will not happen for a long time now.

More than 100 children hospitalized after eating I Day sweets given at Govt schools in Kanpur

Chaubepur, Aug 15 (ANI): About 450 students fell ill of which nearly 100 were hospitalized on Friday after consuming sweets distributed at government schools in Kanpur’s Chaubepur area. The students are being treated at the local hospital and the matter is being examined closely. DM of Kanpur, Roshan Jacob said that all efforts are being made to avoid casualties. She added that the sweet shop from where the sweets were ordered has been sealed and samples are being taken for examination.

Nothing new in PM Modi's Independence Day speech: Congress

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech delivered from the ramparts of the Red Fort had nothing much or new to offer and lacked impact. Another Congress leader Salman Khurshid added that Modi’s speech was more of an election speech rather than a speech by a Prime Minister. Earlier the Prime Minister unfurled the flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort after inspecting the guard of honour. During his address, he touched upon issues related to poverty, women safety, female foeticide, the importance of the IT sector, the discontinuation of the planning commission, making India the global manufacturing hub of the future and the problem of farmer suicides.

A grand first look launch of SRKs Happy New Year

Mumbai, August 15 (ANI): The much awaited trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ was launched by its team at grand event held in Mumbai. Present at the event was the Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah along with Farah Khan. The film, directed by Farah Khan and produced by SRK`s Red Chillies Entertainment, is centred around six losers who set out to change their destiny. Touted as Bollywood`s big Diwali release this year, the film promises to make the festive season `happier` for fans of Hindi movies, and SRK, who will be seen on the silver screen after a gap of over a year. CJI hopes for judicial freedom, Government shows commitment

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Chief Justice of India, RM Lodha while speaking at a function organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association on Friday, said he hopes that judiciary, executive and parliament are allowed to work independently and without any interference. Politicians highlight issues Modi missed in his Independence Day speech

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Indian political leaders on Friday underlined misses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech, while also appreciating his effort to touch upon basic issues the country is facing. Modi, in his speech on the occasion of 68th Independence Day on Friday (August 15), highlighted various topics from digitalization of India to poverty. He urged global investors to make India a manufacturing hub, and pitched for manufacturing in the electronic sector, also calling for foreign investment in manufacturing chemicals, automobiles, agro-business and others. However, Politicos felt he did not mention the core struggles of India, such as inflation and corruption. Congress' Rashid Alvi said that Modi could have talked about major problems like militancy from Pakistan but refrained.

State Chief Ministers hoist national flag on Independence Day

Bihar/ Trivendrum/ Bhopal/ Ranchi/ Lucknow, Aug 15 (ANI): Chief Ministers of various states on Friday hoisted the National Flag on the occasion of 68th Independence Day. Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi hoisted the national flag in Patna and said that Bihar will move forward with an aim for development. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren while addressing the gathering at the Independence Day function held at the Morabadi ground Soren said that Mining had destroyed Jharkhand.
