UK wants to help India develop renewable energy sector, says British minister

Kolkata, July 06 (ANI): United Kingdom has said that they would like to work together with India on various clean energy initiatives. Minister of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, UK, Baroness Sandip Verma, talked about ensuring a greener and safer planet at an interactive session at Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce (MCC) in Kolkata city of West Bengal. She also said that India can explore the possibility of having a Green Investment Bank like that of the United Kingdom.

Students fall ill after eating mid-day meal served at school in Bihar

Bihar/ Chittoor, July 06 (ANI): More than 50 students fell ill in Sitamarhi district of Bihar after consuming mid-day meal served at school. 54 children fell ill after eating the food in which a dead snake was found. BJP leader Manish Kumar said he got the information from a villager who informed them about a dead snake being found in the meal served to students. The children reportedly showed symptoms of nausea and all of them fell unconscious after eating the meal. In a similar incident, reportedly more than 60 children fell sick in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh after consuming the mid-day meal on Saturday.

30 low caste families facing social boycott in Odisha

Rayagada, July 06 (ANI): For the past nine months, thirty low caste tribal families of the remote Paikapada village in Odisha face the humiliation of social boycott by villagers belonging to a higher caste. These thirty families who belong to Sano-adivasi (lower class) group are boycotted by the group Bodo-adivasi (upper class) which consists of 80 families. The Additional District Magistrate from Rayagada, Laxmikanth Behara, said that he has been informed about the incident. The group was boycotted for refusing to consume meat during the celebrations in honour of the Hindu elephant god, Ganesha.

Maoists shoot down doctor in Jharkhand

Gumla, July 06 (ANI): A village doctor, Raj Kishore Singh, was killed by Maoists in Gumla district of Jharkhand. Doctor's son, Deepak Kumar Singh, said the incident occurred in Mahadev Chutia village within Gagra police station limits in the district on Friday night. Villagers, though aware of the truth, refrained from speaking about the incident due to fear of the rebels and their threats. The reason for the killing is unknown and the Gumla police have sent the body for post-mortem.

BSF bringing smiles to children with cleft lips and palates

More Indian nationals return from Iraq, thank Indian govt

New Delhi, July 05 (ANI): Another flight carrying stranded Indian nationals from Iraq has landed at New Delhi airport on Saturday evening. The Additional Resident Commissioner of Kerala, Rachana Shah said that she is thankful to all those who cooperated in this operation. Car rally flags off from Patna to spread road safety awareness

Anti-nuclear group urges government to stop expansion of Kudankulam plant

Chennai, July 05 (ANI): Women members of the Anti Nuclear People's Movement held a news conference in Chennai on Saturday, saying another reactor is not required, following the government's plan to start a third and fourth reactor as an expansion of the present nuclear power plant in Idinthakarai village of the area. Member of Anti Nuclear People's Movement, Malar, said that they are demanding the government to stop the unnecessary expansion of the nuclear power plant. India has ratified an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to expand its civilian nuclear programme, in a move aimed at unblocking a major nuclear partnership with the United States.

Three- day painting exhibition brings cheer to specially-abled in Siliguri

Siliguri, July 05 (ANI): Anubhab, a voluntary organisation in Siliguri organised a three- day painting- cum- sale exhibition from July 04 to bring cheer to the specially- abled. The organizers will be showcasing more than 30 paintings by an eminent painter, Binit Sinha, from Kolkata who told the reporter that it is the duty of society to look after the specially- abled people. The Secretary of Anubhab, Pradip Nag, said the raised funds would be used to help the children.
