Srinagar, Aug 25 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, on Monday (August 25), maintained that all steps are being taken to rehabilitate the victims of the ceasefire violations along the India-Pakistan border. His statement comes after a regional party, Jammu and Kashmir National Panther's Party (JKNPP) blamed the state and central government for turning a blind eye to those affected in the conflict torn region. Addressing a session of the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly, Abdullah said that the allegations politically motivated.

BJP slams Omar for asking Centre to hold 'talks' to end Pak firing

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): The BJP on Monday slammed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remark that the Centre should reconsider its decision of cancelling talks with Pakistan in order to end the border hostilities. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that Pakistan will have to pay for humiliating and bleeding Indian soldiers. India had called off Foreign Secretary level talks with Pakistan after Islamabad's envoy to New Delhi Abdul Basit went ahead with meetings with separatist leaders from Kashmir even after he was asked by the Centre to desist from it.

Fire at woolens' factory in Ludhiana, 3 dead

Ludhiana, Aug 25 (ANI): A raging inferno left three dead at a woolens' factory in Ludhiana on Monday. Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames. The dead bodies were handed over to police and investigations are going on.

JKNPP protests govt apathy towards victims of ceasefire violation in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 25 (ANI): Representatives of Jammu and Kashmir National Panther's Party (JKNPP) held demonstrations in the Kashmir State Assembly on Monday against the apathy of the central and state governments towards those who have been affected by the recent ceasefire violations on the border. Pakistan army violated a ceasefire on the Indian border in the intervening night of August 24th and August 25th in Jammu district of the region. People living along the border have been under constant threat of the firing which has made them leave their homes overnight. The displaced live in chaotic conditions, most of the time without basic amenities.

Britain deputy PM Nick Clegg pays tribute to martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): Britain's deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg began his three days India visit on Monday by paying homage to martyrs at India gate war memorial, Amar Jawan Jyoti. Clegg is on a trade mission to India, where he will meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bid to strengthen economic ties. The three-day visit by a 40-strong delegation is the latest in a series of similar trips by David Cameron's government which will foster closer links with the world's largest democracy. British retail, aerospace and education businesses are expected to sign deals and explore opportunities with Indian counterparts during the trip.

According to sources, Advani and Joshi may not find a place in either the BJP parliamentary board or its central election committee which are set to be reconstituted by party President Amit Shah. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that they were already shown the exit gates. Political leaders blame MP govt for lack of safety measures leading to Chitrakoot temple stampede

New Delhi/ Bhopal, Aug 25 (ANI): Political leaders on Monday blamed the Madhya Pradesh government for lack of safety measures which led to stampede at Kamtanath Pahad Temple in Chitrakoot. At least 10 people were killed in the temple stampede that took place early morning and officials say the death toll is to increase further. Politicos said that the state government failed to take precautions even after a similar incident occurred earlier killing many.

Former Diplomat slams Omar Abdullah asking centre to hold talks with Pak to end firing

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): Former Indian Diplomat Rajiv Dogra on Monday slammed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on his controversial statement linking shelling of border villages by Pakistan to the calling off of the foreign secretary-level talks between the two countries by the Narendra Modi government. Dogra said that Abdullah is trying to cover up his inaction during his tenure by such statements and this would only lower the morale of Army and people along the international borders. He also said that ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased recently and that Indian Army should take adequate actions in advance and should not waste any time whatsoever.

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): Political reactions flowed on Monday as Pakistan continued to violate the ceasefire along Indo-Pak international border. BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain said that BJP government will look into the matter and give a befitting reply to Pak. Fire in Connaught Place building, fire tenders rushed to spot

At least 10 people killed in stampede at Kamtanath Pahad Temple in MP

Chitrakoot, Aug 25 (ANI): Ten pilgrims were killed and over 60 are believed to have suffered injuries in a stampede early on Monday at Kamtanath Pahad Temple, about 80 kms away from Satna district headquarters, on the Madhya Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh border. The stampede took place at about 6 am today, as devotees crowded Kamtanath temple in Chitrakoot for a festival called the Somvati Amavasya. The stampede occurred during 'Shayana Pradakshinam' which is done in a lying posture. District officials fear the number of dead and injured could rise and said five of those killed were women.
